Frostpunk 2 is the sequel to the highly acclaimed, BAFTA-nominated society survival game that blended city building, strategy and management gameplay, creating a brand new genre. Its successor takes place 30 years after the apocalyptic blizzard storm, and Earth is still overwhelmed by the icy climate of neverending frost and harsh weather.
You play as the leader of a resource-hungry metropolis where the expansion and search for new sources of power is an unavoidable reality. After the age of coal, conquering Frostland for the oil extraction industry is expected to be the new salvation of what’s left of humanity. However, change does not come easily, and not everyone in this new multi-layered society will welcome this new direction.

if you've played the first i guess you know what to expect..
The first one was one of the best and challenging game I ever played.
I thought I was game over until the very last minutes, I eventually made my colony survive ... but at what cost and sacrifice ?
I am even afraid to get back to this "world" with this sequel to be honest

Well, I remember finding the "winning meta" pretty quick, there was one way to be almost certain to succeed.
Sure, you had to go through the game first to see which events would bring what, but then it's just some planning, and you're gravy.
Let's hope this iteration adds more wiggle room

I didn't play the first one, thinking of picking it up. Can the first game actually be beaten? or is it one of those games where you ultimately always fail.

You can finish the main story yes, but that doesn't mean you won't be scarred while going through it.
Yeah, but so was the first game and it's also a bit of a thing with this dev. This War of Mine wasn't exactly moodlifting either.
But still fun though. These games are more like puzzles, figuring out mechanics and stuff, so you know which things to focus on early so you don't fall behind.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
This is a rather unusual sequel indeed, which almost completely changes the perspective to a less personal level ending up feeling like a standard city builder with extra (frosty) steps and exploitable politics. As a result, there's considerably less existential dread involved, which may be a plus for some.
It took me about one afternoon to finish the campaign (five chapters with scripted events + a couple of drastic decisions to make), and while I enjoyed its gameplay loop based on covering all the basic needs by also keeping the trust in check through tricks/compromises, the disappointment was there since the game could have been much more in my opinion. Still, it was pleasant to see those pesky ungrateful Pilgrims being rounded up and expelled in full force with accidental casualties, glory to New London
