ok heres the short version.... i have a 500GB harddrive with no OS on it, was using to store files wile using vista64 ultimate, can i still pull files from this drive if i use XPsp3?

Of course. Both OSes still use the same filesystem

Is it a new install or already running os? If the former, then don't connect the storage drive while installing xp or else it will ask if you want to format the drive. Even if you answer no it might still go ahead and format it anyway or you might get problems when you start up after the install and it informs you that the drive is not formatted. Install everything and then connect the storage drive.
