As I've stated earlier it won't be long till we have Civilization as a cover shooter with the main protagonist being Julius Caesar, voiced by Vin Diesel. With such great oneliners as "Thats how you spearhead modern civilization!" After he impales someone with his spear.
Later on you could play as a thompson machine gun wielding Sir Winston Churchill and scream "taste my cigar fritz!" as you storm the trenches in normandy.

I haven't palyed it but I must've missed the part about it being a first person shooter. Just because it's played from a first person perspective doesn't mean it's a FPS.
Remove the technology limitations and there's no reason he can't still research monster lore, talk to NPCs, and stick the occasional shotgun in something or someone's face and pull the trigger.
