So has anyone seen the commercial advertising this yet?
Saw it like 5 times yesterday. Debuts in the Fall.

Anyone have current info on SG:U? Or perhaps a trailer or something?
Or a character list? Who the main characters are, the roles (Soldier, Scientist etc) and who's play each of the main characters?

Cause based on the commercial, it doesn't look the same as the 2 previous series. Seems more along the lines of BSG.
It seems darker, more adult oriented (which is good).

Main cast:

I honestly don't have high hopes for this series, even the series premise is a rip-off from Voyager.

Stargate Universe follows the adventures of a team of explorers from present-day Earth after they find the Ancient spaceship Destiny. They must fend for themselves aboard the ship in the far reaches of the universe as they are unable to return to Earth.

The cast is not impressive. Especially the first guy. He's from Formula 51 with Sam Jackson.

And yeah, its a "lost in the Delta Quadrant" deal.

Still, I didn't think I would like Stargate: Atlantis.

And it does seem like a darker show more for adults rather than the way SG1 and SG:A was.

And apparently 2 SG:A movies are coming out and possibly one more SG1 movie.

Personally, I'm waiting for the first SG:A movie. SG:A still has loose ends to tie up. The war with the Wraith being the main thing.
Just like Stargate: The Ark of Truth wrapped up the Ori conflict, I think the first SG:A movie will wrap up the Wraith conflict.

I'm gunna give SG:U a chance. I may end up like SG:A and grow on me. They better have strong story lines tho cause the actors aren't appealing.

Thanks for the info inz Smile

Have any info, perhaps a release date of the SG:A movie?

The SG:A movie is still in the early stages of overall production, this is the latest on it afaik:

Quote:
As of March 2009, the first Stargate Atlantis movie has reached the script-writing stage. Executive producers Paul Mullie and Joseph Mallozzi are doing the honors. No filming date has yet been announced, and at last word the cast had not yet been contacted.

The main problem I have with the cast is that they don't seem to be very memorable, that they're lacking personality and character (of course they could be awesome as actors, just judging by the looks atm). SG:A at least had McKay and Ronon.

Most definitely will have to watch the premiere of SG:U tho, since it will have Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks as guest stars. RDA's even signed up for several episodes for the first season, and you can never have enough O'Neill. Razz

How can Shanks and RDA guest star if the show takes place lost on a ship in deep space? That doesn't make sense. Still, it will atleast start the show off well.

I think they will have to bring someone from SG1 or SG:A to SG:U.

I'd say either RDA (but he's getting old), Jackson cause he's the anthropologist guy and it would go well on SG:U, Teal'c would be cool, Ronon would be cool....McKay would be really good cause he's the expert with Ancient Tech and maybe John Sheppard.

They're gunna have to bring someone from one of the other SG shows cuz like you said, the cast doesn't look good at all. And based on what I saw in the commercial....they aren't very good actors.
Like Claudia Black who plays Vala....horrible actor/actress

And I can't believe SG:A isn't even being filmed yet. SG1 ended in 2007 and they produced 2 movies in 2008.
I could have swore I saw an interview with that Mullie guy that said an SG:A movie will be out in late summer or early fall.

Fuck.....we need another Star Trek series too (the movie is going to SUCK! have you seen the trailer/commercial.....my god.....totally not star trek).

I guess the only thing that we know is good for the time being is Lost, Eureka and Sanctuary (and I like Dollhouse...Dushku is hot Smile)

The same way RDA was on Atlantis premiere - the series started on Earth. Wink

And yeah, the list of watchable shows just keeps shrinking and shrinking... All the good shows are ending completely and there aren't any new good ones getting started.

man i think they should do a radical change into the stargate shows, the family friendly style was cool in the 90s and so on, but now its not that interesting and it makes it all so freaking predictable, you watch the first 15 minutes of an episode and go "awww, and that random guy is gonna get shot and in the end they are all gonna cheer and drink some sprite". they should make stargate more hardcore, gritty and PG-17, now that id watch.

That's the last thing they should do. The franchise desperately needs new interesting characters and inz hit the nail on the head that these are very forgettable looking actors with the same formula as previous shows with older white (not that they should pick some other race just to be different) guy as leader, token chick, token black Razz, etc. Maybe their characters are more interesting.

It all has the smell of 'we need to make some SG-based show so we introduce a plot-line out of the blue which hasn't been mentioned on the main shows even for a second but we'll do it anyway because we can't let the franchise die and besides sci-fi fans are furiously loyal and gullible'.

I dont care for him. Ravenous was cool tho. But he's not Stargate material imo.

Just like the broad who played Janeway in Voyager wasn't Star Trek material. That series could have been decent if they didn't have the woman who plays Janeway, Kess and Neelix.

Still, I will watch the first season and unless its really really horrible with bad story lines, I'll end up watching it.

I'm waiting for the SG:A movies tho.

Only shows left to watch are Sanctuary (didn't like it at first but it grew on me now i cant wait for the 2nd season), Eureka (I like it cause its kinda a parody of sci fi shows and funny) and Lost.

Well, least where I live, SG1 is on 2 time a day (2 different episodes a day) and ST:TNG and ST:DS9 is on daily.
Gotta settle for reruns I guess.

Hehe, Robert Carlyle is the only actor I recognize in that list, and I like him as an actor. He's marvelous in "The Full Monty", and he was in Trainspotting, 28 Weeks Later and a few other productions. Granted, 51st state wasn't a very good movie (Sam Jackson with a qilt? riiiight).

Shows usually get a cast of unknwon people with a few 'famous' people thrown into it, it's nothing new. I had the same questions with the SGA cast, but apart from that Taila woman they turned out all great.
What I don't understand though, Stargate on a ship?

They will never escape the 'voyager' tag. My guess is it will drag for two seasons and then they'll have to make some stv movie to wrap it all up. The fans have probably started the 'Save Stargate-Universe' petition already. Razz

I think the whole point of this show is to introduce it to a new audience (esp. considering fanboys are annoyed all over the internets that it's not as corny as their beloved original), so give it a go. Smile

Got a whole different feeling compared to SG-1 and SG-A. Still, not too bad. though that bad-ass sergeant really got on my nerves for some reason.
