as far as i know dvd drive key tight to mobo, so even if they changed mobo
drive shouldn't even work unless drive was reflashed with appropriate key
so whatever he did he probably screwed up somewhere

mine neither.
I only had the motherboard swapped but the drive was the same (was flashed with 1.4 at the time). Had no problems reflashing from then either (currently its on 1.5.1 and working fine)

So he played for a while and wanted to update it to 1.5.1 to play wave3 games.
He created a new firmware with its "old" key.
Big Mistake !
Xbox doesn't play any original games nor backups.
The key was certainly changed even if the firmware looked untouched.
He should have dumped the key before trying to update its firmware.

This would mean MS injected the new key of the new motherboard into the old drive without changing the firmware of the drive? Weird.

when he saw the new firmware wasnt working he tried to flash it back to orig.bin
even if the flash succeed he could not play original games. then back to 1.4.1, no luck too.
the only thing I see : they changed the key. well they changed the mobo and injected the new key to the dvd drive
