there's been rumors for years, but if it means we'll actually get one, with a return to the mold of the first two i'm all for it
still my favourite game franchise of all time
though, some time ago eidos did say that if they made a fourth one it would not be medieval/victorian steampunk like the first three but something updated
i'm all for a modern thievery game, but keep the thief franchise out of it.. there's no way to 'modernize' steampunk - that's the entire point of the genre, to restrict development and work modernity around historical technology

Isn't this about to be released soon, by the name of "Batman Arkham Asylum"?

That was then, who knows if they're still going for modern version... Btw here's the only released/leaked concept art of that proposed modern Thief game

Replaying Thief 2 The metal Age again now if they do make a fourth game i hope they keep the time line setting the same as the other 3 Thief games.

I liked it a lot when it came out.
Tried a few months ago, and it was boring...
I might give it another shot

"Finally PC Gamer’s ‘Spy’ all but reveals in his usual way in the next issue (on sale 7th May) that Eidos Montreal are indeed working on Thief 4. Incidentally the ‘Spy’ alludes that the previous plans for a new Thief to be set in the modern era have been shelved.
Putting this all together it is a nigh on certainty that on May 11th we will see Eidos Montreal announce that they are hard at work on Thief 4 and that it will still take place in its usual setting".
It's coming.

Good news!
Let's hope it will be up to the quality of Thief 1 and 2.
Mm? What? What about Thief 3, you ask? What's that? That game doesn't exists for me.

Awesome!
Thief 1 & 2 are some of my all-time favorites... Will be interesting to see how this new one turns out. Thief 3 (like DX 2) suffered from the crappy XBox limitations, but with today's console capabilities (since that's what will no doubt set the limits again, unfortunately) a truly open and large-scale City could work.
I won't mind a few monster-heavy levels, but they definitely need to be in the minority. Thief 1 imo had too many of them - Thief 2 had a better balance in this regard.
Some zombies every now and then is ok, that's always been part of Thief, but the main appeal is still in sneaking around mansions and grabbing the good stuff.

well this is interesting news, maybe we will finally get a Thief with some real mp/co-op and that would be great, although its unlikely.
still, good to remain on the fence about it, Thief 3 was a big letdown overall. i played it at release and was sorely disappointed with it, mainly in the performance arena. played it again a few years later and thought it was ok for a minute, it just for whatever reason didnt feel right, not like a real PC game obviously unlike the first 2.
should be interesting, especially after playing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, which could have been called Thief 4 or Arx Fatalis 2 and passed, lol.
a Thief based in the modern era does sound interesting, still why not just make it a fresh IP?

No, because Splinter Cell is a modern day setting. Other than that I think i can name a "few" similarities.

yer stupid. It's third person (well, at least T3 can be played in 3rdperson), has "body awareness", sneak-based, the levels plays out at night, you have to clean up and get rid of bodies, you can shoot out lights... just some things that are similiar in both games.
