|

I want to convert all these DVD9 PC Game releases to DVD-5 (break up into 2 DVDS). Any advise on how to do this? Is this even possible by using the same app for any release?
Examples of games i want to burn onto DVD-5 -
Reloaded - X-Men Origins Wolverine
UNL - Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
RYZEN 5 2600|RADEON 570| |ASRock X370 Killer|DDR4@2800Mhz||Corsair SPEC-05 Case|AOC G2590FX 24.5''144hz 1ms|

I use the guides here: http://fileforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=39
Last one i used was for X-Men Origins Wolverine, works fine, most of them do.
Oh, they are very strict on piracy in that part of the forum, just pretend you bought any game you talk about.
Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms

Great, thanks for link! Appears each game is done differently. Guess there is no magical app that just does it automatically. Will read up on this and follow for each game. DVD-9's are just too expensive. I thought they would fall in price by now. I can get Verbatims DVD5 at 15 cents each, so Ill stick with those.

An external hard disk is a better solution, I believe. Damn dvds are unreliable.

So, this is the point where we argue on whether hard disks are reliable and dvds are not ?

Agreed.
U can pick up a 1TB USB External for like 149.99 (cheaper if go for shitty brands). Also depends on the store.
Either which way, externals are the way to go. DVD's are a fuckin waste imo.

Some games are easy to convert and some arent. The best solution is to buy cheap DVD9's and as Mortibus said store them in the boxes and out of reach of sunlight and humidity. If the disc for some reason gets destroyed, just redownload.

I used to burn stuff to discs. Easy to backup DVD9 games, simply burn them in original scene rars to 2xDVD5. I have CDs burnt as early as 2000 and DVDs from 2002 or so. Every single one of them is still working fine.
But I don't burn anymore, it's a huge waste of time. Storing on HDD is of course more risky but oh well...

Glottis, unraring takes too much time. Storing isos+md5s is a better way.

Does not. Unraring from a DVD takes exactly the same time as copying files from a DVD. And thanks to rar compression I was sometimes able to store multiple games on one DVD. As a bonus my games are in original scene format.

not the same speed
dvd 8x or 12x = 10mb-15mb transfer speed
Hdd = 17mb-20mb or more transfer speed
why not use 7-zip or Gigazip they compressed files are even sometimes 56% smaller then rar ones (Braid 102MB RAR , 99MB 7z {7-zip} , 97mb gz {GigaZip})... but they suck at CD-audio compression , or even why not use WinUha ... they are much better compressing programs then this commercialized shitty Winrar

@spiderman
Winrar can unzip/rar/whatever those files...well, dunno bout WinUha, never heard of it. But 7z and Gz yep.
Plus, Winrar has been the standard for years now. Not gunna change unless a new uber compression app comes out.

I already converted about 5 games to DVD5 already. The link to fileforum (thanks Newty) is all I needed. Has the latest games and files needed to convert. UltraISO works excellent.
I rather backup to DVDS rather harddrives as I had plenty of HDs fail over time. Thanks for all your suggestions.Back to converting..

WinUha or Uha is the common standard amongst the game ripers
7z or Gz is the common standard amongst the retro/Tosec/game collectors
and those programs are really UBER in compressing

http://www.cd-2-dvd.com/index.php & http://fileforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=39 have pretty much the same people contributing to each other. So if its not on one try the other.. but http://fileforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=39 is normally the most upto date.
I have been using these for ahwile converting DVD9's, even did some of my own, turned out once i had done a few and understood the formats of the installers and how to repack the cabs it was quick to do my own, rather than wait for someone else to do, and then see they made mistakes and you waste 3 hours of making images mounting/installing/deinstalling.

I cant find the conversion thread for "Sam and Max Season Two"- Released by Vitality back in 2008. Game was about 6GB. Was there ever a DVD9 to DVD5 conversion made for this

russians can do some crazy compressions, nothing ripped btw |
Colin_McRae_DIRT_CLONE is 4.7GB, unpacks to 8.3GB iso and final install is about 13GB

Not exactly sure why are you so "glad" about that, seeing as 360 version suffers from bad slowdowns, long load times and looks worse than PC version maxed out. And now I'm offtopic once again *runs*
