I have an external HDD (1TB) where I have about 400 gigs of data. It is one partition and formatted in NTFS.
Now I need a partition of about 120 GB in FAT32 on that drive. The existing data must not be lost of course, and it also can't be copied to other drives, meaning it has to stay there during the process.

What program can I use for this? I already tried Partition Magic 8 several times, but that always crashes and I had to rebuild the drive headers with chkdisk.
So what other program would you recommend?

you can use partition magic its great but yea it can crash and it will also probably crash on other apps. The best thing to do is to create new partitions on an empty disk so you know you wont lose anything and it will do it right.

what OS are you using, if vista or win7 then use built in disk manager, will allow non-destructive partition resizing. or use paragon partition manager. partition magic used to rule but no longer, now its pants.
In this day and age it is crazy to say use an empty disk. I have re-partitioned/re-sized etc my main OS drives dozens of times whilst experimenting with different OS's, without disaster, i just always made a backup of my main OS partitiion first (although never needed the backup)

Don't use Partition Magic, it's outdated and haven't been updated for years.

Use Acronis Disk Director, absolutely sublime app.

I already tried Paragon, and it worked flawless. Maybe those other apps are even better, but I have no need for them now Smile
