mostly directed at people in the USA. evidently someone who lived in my apartment before me was getting cable for free. a few weeks ago a tree limb fell in the street and tore down a bunch of crap, cable included. so earlier this week a cable truck was out there first thing in the morning and now i have no cable. i've been there for about 5 years and just assumed it was included in the rent but after this i dug out a copy of my lease and i see that it isn't.

there was a skank ass ho-bag living there before me who screwed guys all the time and i'm assuming she screwed her way into free cable and after the tree limb fell they must have caught on since they had to replace the whole cable line all the way down the street.

been considering crawling under the apartment and hooking into my neighbors cable with a splitter

I think they can tell if you use a splitter. If they catch you they will back charge you so I don't think it is worse it. I think if you are in the states you get free tv over the net. Or broadcasts.

i pay for cable, since it's forcefully included with the internet. but if i would watch tv and i wouldn't have cable already and it would be as easy as connecting a splitter, yeah, of course i'd steal it

@pistol: i don't think they can tell that. and that free internet tv isn't so cool. if you change the channel it has to buffer ahead so it takes about 30 seconds 'til it switches. i managed about 10 minutes of this sort of channel surf, before i got bored out of my mind Laughing

yea i think they'd have to prove i was the one that crawled under there and did it. personally i dont give a shit about tv but the wife is sad. the few things i watch i can download and watch during lunch at work.

this would be analog cable using the tuner in my tv, not trying to get digital or hi def. pretty sure it would be untraceable.

or my friend told me that they put so called "bomb" on it so thats why i could not watch it...it would cost like $100 to remove it....lol

Nope, you are miss informed pistol. I used to work for Shaw Cable before i went to university.

Every house has a cable connection off the main line, and either they put a filter in place like a low pass that give you just the lower frequency channels or there is a spacer in between the main splitter and the drop to your house.

The only way your cable company can tell you pirated cable, is they come and physically audit neighborhood every so many years, and check the tags. There are drop tags, Disconnection tags, etc.

I used to be called the cable avenger by my friends because i have all the tools still to pirate cable. But honestly if you have a good pair of pliers, you can just crush the lock spacer and remove it quite easily.

I have hooked up dozens of friends, and they are blown away by how easy it is. The RF signal is already split and coming to every house/apt etc. Theirs just a spacer installed between the drop to your house and Shaws network. Just make sure when you hook up your friends, hook up every connection in the pedestal, and cut all the disconnection tags off. No one can pin point it then. This is for cable without the use of a cable digital box.

Impossible to steal cable here.
All cables are dug down underground.
All houses got the cables to their house.
Everyone who wants to use it needs a decoder.
And even if you got a decoder, they control how many channels you get from their main office.

I hate you.

No need for a splitter. All you need is one tool to remove filters from your line. If you live in IL, let me know, ill get you free 20mb internet as well.

i lacked the proper tools to put ends on the cables so instead of cutting into one of her lines from under her side of the apartment i checked out the back of her apartment and found the time warner box where the cable runs in. both inputs for her side and my side were there and the box was already open. i checked another house and it had what looked like a small masterlock but it was made out of nothing but plastic with no keyholes or anything.

anyway that lock was missing from my neighbors so i went and bought a two way splitter and a couple of short coax cables and split the feed for her apartment into two and then fed her input and mine from that. i was kinda bummed cause i was hoping she was getting hbo and cinemax. so i got the same crappy channels i had before. i know i know, how american of me to complain about it hehehe

i'm sure sooner or later someone will come and see it and undo it but when they do then i'll just go under the apartment and split off of her line where they won't find it. i would've done it that way but without the right crimping tool i didn't really see how it was possible. the tags dude that worked for shaw mentioned sounds about right, after they disconnected mine from the pole you could see an orange tag on it. i sure do miss the free sat back from the dtv days. then they nailed dish and now i hear FTA is getting blacked out slowly. getting harder and harder to steal tv.

That little plastic box is a customer service access or some shit like that. The key for it is actually just a little tool that fits into the front hole (Could be a cover over it) and the end of that key offsets to provide friction to remove the lock nut. (There could be a filter in there.) Same lock nuts they put inline with your cable spigot. I would try and remove the lock nut on your spigot and connect directly. To remove the lock nuts, just crush them with a pair of pliers, then they stop spinning freely, and will unthread.

Running that splitter is a sure fire way to get noticed though, but you probably don't have to really worry. Here in Calgary Shaw hardly ever audits there connections. If you have access to the disconnect tag, i would remove it.

@nerrd.

How are you pirating cable internet. I thought your modem had to be provisioned for the node its connected to?

Don't steal cable.

Can't steal cable with my set up.

Trust me, I've tried to find a hacked dvr but since the info comes from my cable provider, it'd be pointless.

I don't mind paying for entertainment. No big deal. And since I have a certain standing, I get a HUGE discount and new chans they add for free.

They can't tell if you use a splitter for cable that doesn't require a digital box.

i'm just watchin tv perm. i have dsl. far as i know there's no way to steal the internet part without some help from the inside or without lifting someone's cable modem who wouldn't notice and would keep paying the bill on it. i don't know about shaw but in this part it doesn't seem to matter where you plug your cable modem in. if you have service and plug your modem into any coax that is fed into the cable system it will get online.

Meh, steal all you want i say. I don't because i have 20MB internet, and 2 HD PVRs. Why don't you get Sat? Im quite happy with Shaw. They dont bother me even if i DL for 72 hours straight from Giganews. Gotta fill my 6TB NAS, Smile .

And Syco, Killabyte was referring to my quote when i mentioned shaw.

@Manu-xl

You want a cable pirating tutorial?
