So days after an insider mentions they could theoretically blow a fuse to render the xbox useless . A "reliable source" comes out and says they are implementing it
Microsoft has enough bad press over the 360 as it is...

They are basically destroying property , The lawsuits in europe alone could potentially bankrupt them , loopholes would be found in countries that this could be construed as legal and their reputation would be in tatters

lulz they don't know about what they are talking about,
its only wave 3 new protection system named DVD-XGD2.5,
its on Fifa 2009 but ix1.6 allready has a way to go pass it so...

But, according to the original post (if I understand that correctly) they wanna do it _without_ giving you the possibilty to abort the update.
And looking at M$ that pretty much would be their style just forcing that update upon you and afterwards saying,"oh wait, there was this update, but if you read this all's fine"
It's kinda interesting how this company still finds new way that people despise them ^^
Just read a couple mor pages of the GT thread and I gotta say I love it!
What I love especially are those people that say "it's bad for the industry bla bla yada yada"
Same freaking argumentation that goes on with movies or music.
If I want a game/movie/cd I go and buy it.
If I wouldn't pay for it I download it. Stuff I download is stuff I never would buy. (Well, with a few exceptions but those are items that I sooner or later buy so those industries lose absolutely nothing because of me. I just love that argumentation, it's so nice and beautiful uber bullshit)

How people seem to believe that "somebody that flashed their firmware" == "somebody that cheats online"

It's been done before .. and I don't recall any lawsuits over it either.
Wii, anyone? How many Wiis were bricked after the new firmware update conflicted with installed homebrew and/or modchips then wiped out the machine? Heck, there's even a disclaimer from Nintendo just before you install the firmware;

How is it , Your tampering with actual files on the wii that could brick it . When they perform the system update they are replacing some of the files which in turn could brick your console

Uhh, that's twice you've mentioned "blowing a fuse" -- where on earth did you get THAT from? I sure don't see anything mentioned like that in the rumour post up there  |
The same way they stop you from downgrading the kernal , they blow fuses in the box

Just bad-wording, it's most likely Engrish in relation to making the machine unable to read backup media.

mostly bricking wii's is down to using a ntsc wii game on a pal machine and vice versa, the wrong region firmware can be installed and that bricks it. still you can patch the games to remove the update. i dont see ms bricking peoples xbox 360's deliberately.

confirmed , the update will come out and , theres no posibility of turning off the console , they will send one armed guard to each house to insure the update will be done.
bill gates himself will be armed with a nuclear termo missile that will be fired to people that dont connect to live.
(thats why i only use playstation 3 to play online)

Has anyone seen this information anywhere else? I sure haven't. Why is everyone getting so tense over one stupid forum post? There's nothing supporting the claim what so ever. Franky i think its a pile of shit, why wait till now to counteract the problem. I'm not remotely worried and i'm certain we'll all still be playing perfectly functioning 360's next week and beyond.
