|
 |
So i was thinking about it the other day, which game has the biggest world? I remember reading somwhere that The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall has 161,600 square kilometers...
Does anyone know a game that's bigger than that?

Big worlds in games tend to be utterly empty or blatantly random generated.
Having said that, I think Daggerfall takes the cake?

from everything ive read it's either daggerfall or fuel, and seeing as fuel is "console largest" I would say daggerfall is the largest, not that I've played it, just judging by what ive been able to find on google, theres also eve online and WoW being mentioned as well.

er didn't type that right, what I meant by consoles was the "award" it received.
"Largest ingame world on consoles"

wasn't borderlands supposed to have a huge fucking universe or was that the game they had to chop down so they could get it on consoles.
guild wars had a huge fucking world once you got all the expansions going, trying to walk around from one end to the other took fucking forever.

No, that was RAGE and it hasn't been chopped down, it's been merged. Original idea was to have six separate areas, but due to storage constraints on the 360 it has now been combined into two (one per disk) with no loading times between what would have been the separate zones -- nothing has been removed, or at least that's what iD swear;

... oh and this bit should be a huge "now STFU" to anyone whining about how it's a "non issue" when I spoke about how spreading MGS4 over 4+ DVD9s would be prohibitively expensive;
Quote: |
id has previously stated that the Xbox 360 version of Rage will look worse than its PC and PS3 counterparts due to the limitations of the DVD medium. The studio had hoped to circumvent this by spreading the 360 release across three DVDs, though Microsoft's royalty rates apparently make anything beyond two discs financially impracticable.
|
Yes, there have been a couple of games (name me more than 3) on the 360 that use 3 or more DVD9s, but that doesn't mean ALL companies are willing to pay the extra royalties.

Flashpoint was pretty damn big! I remember never doing the missions and just wondering around houses stealing cars and one time I even got kidnapped and had to make a run for it and stole a chopper! Man, this game was crazy...

daggerfall for sure, and the best part was indeed that most dugeons where randomly generated, man any new game should take a lesson from that game, sheer genius, no game session was ever identical.

What about all those games set in the vastness of space with hundreds of planets to discover?
What does 'biggest world in a game' even mean?

I meant what game has the largest territory. And yes, space games count as well.
Although it's kinda "cheating" , I think the winner here is indeed Microsoft Flight Simulator.

i don't think anything with generated content counts
especially as there are games that can (and will) generate infinitely large worlds (wasn't elite one such? i know there's a bunch of roguelikes)
one game i know of that has an actual hand-made world is assassin's creed
nearly everything else of such scale is mostly generated
flashpoint/arma are huge and buildings and roads etc are placed by hand, but the map is mostly natural world, which is generated on the fly
nearly all of flight simulator games are generated from photographs and height measurement data, apart from hand-placed blocky 3d buildings around cities

Ultima (doubt it, even though it was huge for it´s time), Elite maybe.
But what is the smallest?
And no delix penix doesn´t count.
