Quote:
Yes, it's been an awfully long time, but it appears that The Secret Of Monkey Island is coming back, and to the Xbox 360.

The German USK rating board has revealed that The Secret Of Monkey Island - Special Edition is on its way. This was the very original Monkey Island game, from all the way back in 1990. As for what makes it a Special Edition is currently unknown -- could they be re-doing the graphics? Could the game possibly have a voice cast?

The rating suggests that Activision might have some involvement in the project, but most likely this is simply Activision Europe rating the title for LucasArts, as they are the European publishing arm that LucasArts use. We can only assume this is an Xbox Live Arcade title, but there is a slim chance that this is a retail retelling of the original too.

Spotted at Gamer Bytes

While I'm perfectly content with the ScummVM versions, this must be exciting news for quite a few people. Maybe eventually we'll see all the classics brought to XBLA.

or hopefully... a sequel/conclusion to the series.

according to wiki if a sequel was picked up the original creators would end the series and finally reveal what the secret of monkey island is.

Original was just great, I doubt they can capture the same feeling again if this is a remake. But I sure hope they accomplish that!

there's nothing to finally reveal. the secret had a different meaning in each game.

Sounds reasonable, but

That mystery still remains.

I dunno, I'd rather see them make a brand new Monkey Island game. 99% of the stuff that I like due to nostalgia is good just because it's nostalgia, a remake usually just spoils a good memory.

Gaming - Intel Quad Q9450 @ 3.2GHZ | Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB | SB X-Fi | PC6400 8GB | 300GB Velociraptor

nah, i played all of them lots of times during the years, and they were just as good. the MI series is not one of those that's cool just because of the rose nostalgia glasses. you'll see when the remake comes out, or when you'll replay one of them. (i'm not talking about the 4th, since i didn't like that one too much in the first place)

I didn't even know about MI until a few years ago (I was too young when the original games were released) and I still love them. They are just classics.

good to see that this sort of games are still appreciated, even by people that weren't "used" to graphics like that Smile

that sounded awesome at first, but now that i thunked about it a bit, it seems a very risky move. if you change the gfx there's always a chance of losing the game's style/soul/whatever-you-wanna-call-it. and then you'd get crucified by critics and fans alike.

tahts true,
But atleast they could sproose them up and make them able to run in regular modern OS. without the need for emulators. And soemgames dont have a modern counterpart.
Like Conquest of the new world, Imperial, the indiana jones series. day of the tentacle, syndicat wars.

ah, i'd love to see remakes of the older stuff too, i just wouldn't wanna take the responsibility of getting them right on my shoulders. if someone else would do it, it'd be cool. i got my trusty hammer and a stash of nails waiting Laughing
