Mmm mmm....nothing like the smell of a 8800 GTS roasting Friday morning. On the plus side I can still boot it, I just have to stare at 5 sets of blue and red lines evenly spaced out. I may go cross-eyed by weekend's end, but fuck it - its worth it!

Ordered an eVGA GTX 285 off of Newegg and sprung for $30 overnight shipping - but its going to be a hell of a long weekend.

And FYI - don't alt tab out of Empire Total War mid battle with 185.20 drivers or bad things will happen. In the middle of an EPIC fucking battle too. My luck.

Time to get really good at Wii tennis over the weekend and probably dislocate a shoulder.
Of course this couldn't have happened YESTERDAY so I could have the replacement by today. Nope..can't fucking have that.....

Bah, i fucking hate it when hardware breaks just before the weekend and you absolutely HAVE to wait until monday Razz

Though, when it comes to graphics cards, i've only had one break down on me, my old Radeon 9800XT with an Arctic Cooling cooler.. And it broke while the comp was idling and i was at school Razz

Yea, the good old 9800XT, the cooler fan stopped working one day and it was on 120°C once for over 5 hrs and I didn't notice. Gladly I started a game then and once I saw hundreds of white and red dots flashing on the screen I knew something was wrong Very Happy
The card survived, and then I bought the arctic cooler which gladly didnt break down like _SiN_'s and the card worked for another 16 months. Then it finally passed away while the computer was turned off, like an old man in sleep. That was the first and last time I got an ATI Razz

Well my cooler didn't break down either, just that when i put the card in any PC, that computer wouldn't even show the POST-screen Razz

Heh my other pc with a 9800xt still working for a long time now, the fan broke down years ago, but all I did was glue 2* 80 size fans against the sound cards pcb boards edge and the 9800xt's edge one sucking one blowing.
And I rest another 80 size fan on top at and angle leaning over the card against the copper coils of the cpu heatsink lol. Hasnt failed me yet ever.. still going plays sims 3 and shooters all day long no problem for my kid...

Quite honestly the longest and hardest wearing card ive ever owned for sure.

Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.

Uhm, yeah..
Well, it drilled itself up trough my rectum! The doctors never found it, and now when I do the number 2; there is shit mixed with blood.
I don't know, not that worried. Just sad I lost it, because that was one sweet dildo!

I did monitor my temps - for about 8 months now I've had the card stable overclocked at 630 core (stock 513), 880 mem clock (stock 792). With fans running 100% the card never went above 85 C on max load.

The plot thickens however. I turned on comp this morning to get my Newsbin keycode so I could install it on a laptop and watch some movies over the weekend. To my surprise however the blue/red/yellow lines which appeared during boot/desktop have VANISHED.

I've reinstalled 182.52 drivers, and put eVGA percision back on - this time without the overclock.

I don't understand how it could have been a temperature problem - the temps read normal at the time of the incident. As soon as it happened I immediately downclocked everything back to stock, checked temps (70 C) and rebooted multiple times in safe mode with uninstalled drivers. Each time the artifacts were there so I was quite convinced the card was thoroughly FUBAR.

Not quite sure what the fuck is going on. Guess its time to boot up ETW and stress test this bitch once and for all!

Yea - I made it about 15 minutes in to ETW - got past the first Battle before it hard froze on me on the campaign map. No artifact lines at desktop still though....

How would RAM going bad get me red and blue artifacts on the desktop in safe mode? Always thought that was a graphics card issue. I've had a card cook out on me before and it was similar symptoms.

I can't seem to get it to lock up in HAWX though - not sure how HAWX isn't more intensive than ETW campaign map. Grr wtf....
