EA Partners will publish Crysis 2, Electronic Arts and CryTek announced today. Though devoid of any details on the game and no release date estimate, today's announcement did reveal that the CryEngine 3 powered game will head to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in addition to a PC release.
"The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli, adding "This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it's the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event."
CryTek previously teamed with EA Partners for Crysis and Crysis Warhead.

No actually, after the FAiL of Crysis & Warhead, CryTek actually sit on their lazy asses and optimized the shit out of their engine. If you see the tech demos of CE3 running on the 360, it displays pretty much what CE2 displayed on high(est), but running on a fucking 360, something Cevat [o rly?] Yerly said was impossible.

Yeah... but.... those techdemos looked worse than current crysis/warhead, expect from some new indoor lightning and shadows effects, but then again, those types of enviroments were not present neither in crysis nor in crysis warhead.

Hmm, I remember someone comparing the tech demos with similar PC footage and it looked pretty high. At any rate, having it run so well on 360 could mean one thing for us PC gamers - the game will be much more optimized.

It was funny how the first game failed, did they expect half the market to own supercomputers ?
They should make a PS2 version and port that to the PC, just for the lulz !

Can't wait for more "20 pirated copies for every original" and "piracy ruined our sales" when this is out.
Also, I'd like to see Orly's reaction when the game is leaked one week/month early on the 360.

Don't worry, he'll blame it on the PC nonetheless. In case you haven't noticed, all the idiot publishers and developers who jumped on the piracy wagon, only mentioned PC. I'm sure MS legal team will shake their finger at anyone who even thinks of mentioning piracy on the 360.

Come on guys, not like there's anything to dumb down with the console release. Crysis (and even more so, Warhead) were nothing special in terms of gameplay, and what is there to dumb down exactly? Remove the reload function?

Honestly, after playing Crysis, the gameplay was mediocre at best. I still don't know a single soul who still plays the multiplayer. Although its a pretty game, they better bring something new to the table.

Lol exactly.
If every grain of sand moves, I could care less. A graphical power house =/= a great game.
I think the game itself is a tech demo.

I Dont understand all this hating on the gameplay of crysis? Before that all we had where pretty much linear run and gun corridor shooters e.g run foreward shoow a few guys blow up a barrel or two rinse+repeat, with crysis it offered so many more layers to the gameplay with the nano suit and physics system.
I think people forget that crytek bought alot of firsts to the FPS genre with crysis, example it was the first time you could actually run up and grap an enemy by the throat, and then throw them violently into a pile of explosive barrels you had piled up previously, or the fact that you could see a jeep speeding towards you and a well placed shot can take out the tyres to have it flip over you action movie style because of thier awesome physics system. Crysis is the type of game that is what YOU make it depending on your playing style, you have the opportunity to change it up however you want whenever you want e.g. go in stealthy or balls out run and gun action, to my mind no other shooter has done it as well as crysis did. And the cutscenes and set pieces, you cant tell me you didnt think they where something epic the first time you saw them?
I Actually feel spoiled by the gameplay in crysis, and has ruined games like COD for me now because the action just feels forced and fake to me in those type of games now, SP campaign only of course MP still rocks.
They Also raised the bar for graphics substantially, I think the last graphical leap foreward before crysis was around the time of Doom 3 and maybe HL2 or call of duty 2.
