I wonder how little will be changed this time...I loved the initial one on the Xbox but then for some reason they seemed in my eye's to break it, the controls for a shot were way too fiddly, I was hooking shots that seemed to be a straight line line according to the on-screen graph despite having a good lie / lye and and no wind.

Maybe it's just me...Anyway, they add so little in every release..

you would think with huge world games like GTA,saints row. etc. etc. that they would have like 40+ courses but nooooooooooo just a crappy 16! then woohoo they want you to DL extra courses for more money. EA and M$ are evil power hungry step brothers.

I seem to recall Tiger Woods is always region free. 08 and 09 were at least.

I dl'd this yesterday and wasn't expecting too much. My original reason for playing it was purely as I was testing a new dvd burner.

I did a quick 18 holes on TPC Sawgrass and liked what I saw. They haven't change the fundermentals but there is a new putting mode (which i prefer).

The way you build skills up is based on your performance rather than assigning skills to certain areas manually. Not sure if this was the case in 09 but it works well.

Load times are good as well. Always had an issue with tiger woods games whereby it would take too long to load between holes but its pretty quick now. Not sure on performance if it were installed to HDD, will try tonight.

Fairly impressed tbh as I wasn't expecting too much.

Got it yesterday but haven't tried it yet. Regarding the skills that adapt to how you play, it was present in ´09 and was one of the few quirks I had about that game. Having to play through different tutorials each and every time after I finished a round, in order to keep my stats high, was very frustrating. I like the concept of dymanic stats but it could be implemented in a better way, not more or less forcing people to play tutorials after each game. After having beat the course records with 3-4 strokes it feels weird to be told that my "Short game needs a little work" feels weird. I am not really sure how the stats affect the game play either except for power. Having a 7 och 9.9 in putting seemed to be no different at all? Talking about 09 now.

Ah, yeah i noticed it came up with "Drill exercises" when I'd completed a days golf.
You can exit it and aren't forced to play it and it would appear to give you the option to do any kind of skill (i.e. power, putting, etc). That may just be because I've got low skills everywhere atm.

Weird stuff, there anything special you need to do with this release? burnt it as normal to a DL and just shows as a playable DVD or doesnt read the disc. Might try a reburn but when sticking it through abx it reports errors, verification failed.

Starting Verification
Looking for 86D68D66AEAF9E49.ini in the online verified database
There is no verified rip of this Xex/SS combination in the online database
Failed to find a verified ini file for this Xex/SS combination
Verification failed

Set AutoFix Threshold to Level 3 if you want to try and find a verified SS and
Stealth files that match the Xex, and automatically patch them if found.

Can anyone confirm this happens with their ISO, its the same one I grabbed, wondering if i need to do anything to it before burning? Hope you guys can help, really wanting to play this title.

I get exactly those results when I run it through abx.
It won't be a verfied rip until the game is officially out. Or thats how I've noticed it work in the past. I think they must verfy data from a proper, purchased disc.

What firmware are you running and what speed where you burning?

Meh, think I figured the source. was running an effin old FW version on my Hitachi (eugh) 5.3a i think?

Stuck it on 1.51 as 1.6 isnt available for hitachi currently and seems like its running now, will check it when I get home but seemed to be doing everything right. Smile

Also there is an option in Autofix "Level 3" which basically grabs some files off the net if the verification part doesnt seem to complete. Now the disc is saying its perfect but should I not be running this thing online for now or something?

Confused as the wave 3 jibberish and ABGX. Does that basically verifiy only when the game should be out in stores or something?

Cheer again for replies.

JP

Hmm..I'm still giving it thought here after Grimmys short but sweet review.

Like others I hated the new skills mode, ok it's realistic that a player can play badly but it does not mean he has lost the skill, he's just not using it right at the time. If it was done over a long time period then it would have been more apt.

Must have a look for vids of the new putting mode..

I just hope the swing mode has been loosened up a little, I just hated taking what seemed a straight swing and watch it hook when even the graph showed it was pretty straight..

I've played a bit more of it now.

The swinging is pretty lose tbh. I always had a habit of slicing my shots as my thumb naturally moves from slightly bottom left to slightly top right rather than a straight up down motion. I normally hit every fairway now without actually having to think about it. Never used to be the case.

The putting I'm finding a nightmare on 2 levels. Firstly, reading the green using the line seems very inaccurate. Secondly, dynamic weather effects the speed of the green a lot. However, you can only access green conditions (i.e hard + dry, saturated and wet) from hitting the start button. 9 times out of 10 I forget or don't want the pause therefore ball speed is rarely right from distance.

If it weren't for putting, I might alright at this.
Now Guitar hero: smash hits is out, I can see tiger woods being put on the sideline for awhile

I have to agree with grimmmy, the putting in this is one hell of a nightmare. Reading the green is ridiculous, and even at times when I take everything into account, it makes little difference overall. Everything before that is usually pretty good, which is enjoyable. The putting though, is killing this game. I've done a few tournaments too, with a friend and without, and the people in first place are finishing them at -27 and the like...really, how the hell do they manage that?

i really like the new putting system. i didnt like it at first but its more realistic now. its easy to master once you get the hang of it. but if you like the old way of putting theres an option to turn that on. i know all of you tiger wannabes out there think that you should be getting birdies and eagles on every hole buts thats just ridiculous. i like how the green speed differs with weather. sure the game isnt perfect but there getting close to making it as hard as real golf.
i mean who goes to the golf course and gets like a 52 on a par 72 noooo one! the average golfer gets around 75 to 92 on a course. only pros go under 72. so what im saying is that atleast this game is trying harder to make you earn some skills and thats a good thing....

end transmition!!!

Im agreeing with freeb0y on this one. Been playing this game all the time (when I have the time that is!) and am totally swamped with it. In regards to the swinging, i think its pretty accurate. At the start when you are a lower level correct me if I am wrong but it gives you a lot more gimmy on your accuracy, i.e if you start bottom left a little and end up top right itll be a lot more straight than when at say 7.5 + in skills, from then onwards you notice a bigger difference.

Much like when you start to use draw and fade on your shorts, in the beginning very small differences, later on much more effective. That said, its not difficult to keep it on the fairway most of the way to the green. The putting is not stupidly bad or anything. In fact it just seems its very difficult to read.

Thats not a bad point of the game though, its just something you need to learn. I will often find myself with a birdie opportunity or sometimes and eagle but will fluff a stupidly easy shot, but everytime I will put it down to just damn bad judgement, too little power, not enough slope prediction etc.

Ive done a few tourneys and yes I suck. After 4 I think i am +2 total, which for me I am happy with but when you look at everyone sat on -24 and stuff, it does seem suss. Its a VERY fun to get to a certain stage, but to progress to the next of getting birdies all the time, thats a heck of a challenge.

Also in regards to the skill loss, sorry but I think thats actually a neat feature. If you dont lose skill loss, the game just boils down to whoever puts the most time into playing will top out first and then be able to dominate pretty much the leaderboards all the time. However last night I had an absolutely shocker of a round with my friends and ending up losing .3 in accuracy and putting. Nuff said, it was a bad game, i deserved to lose that, next time I have a decent round Ill surpass that skill gain in no time.

Online features are wonderfully implemented with tonnes of tourney options 24 hour tourneys where you can enter as many times as you want with people all over the world fighting for #1 (I came 500th lol) and when playing SP just having the EA net targets to beat to get online points is a nice little addition.

Overall, if you like sitting back and relaxing whilst playing a round of gold on the computer (no courses anywhere near wherre i live IRL) then this is a great title. Ive sidebenched UFC and FN4 demo for the last week as I am so engrossed in this.
Go figure.

I cant help you on that one as didnt play the 09 version. Have a friend here who did and says 10 is a lot better, but i think you got to ask yourself or post here the things you seriously disliked, then we can post if they still exist in the current version or not.

I manage generally 99-100% on all drives and the slice like you say isnt as big as you would think, it gets better as you improve skills.

Plus the loss of skills is a bit annoying, but hey if you have a bad game what do you expect, you can pull those right back on the next game if you play it well.

I like the style of this, otherwise its too easy to just max out skills but playtime.... like this at least you have to dedicate yourself on a golfing session to pay attention to what you are doing.

Is it just me or is the online portion of this game really fecked up?? Maybe im missing something, but I was playing some of the online tourneys last night and playing a few live games against players and noticed that everyone has basically 12 max skills on everything.

I then noticed that you dont have to play your career character on the tournaments or anything, so you can basically choose the shit hot players that come stock with the game for everything? Where is the challenge in that??

I didnt even see the option to be able to play only career characters and from what I noticed, all the online tournaments allow you to play either player created or default characters, seems absurd to me. Sure I can go and pick tigerwoods and have a game, but i thought the whole point was that you have the option to play against people whom have spent time concentrating on their career characters.

Maybe someone who is playing (if anyone of you still are) could enlighten me?

EA doing something right? Wink The new putting system in this game is amazing and improving your skills makes this game even more better, it makes you stick to the game longer and you dont get bored of it so quickly like I did with Tiger Woods 09. Anyone seen that bug though when you go near a tree and the ball gets stuck underneath the tree? I have to reset the course.

I like bum.
