there are others that work too, i have samsung for example but it was original not patched
it was so cheap back when i bought it so i couldn't even bother myself to get unpatched one and modify it for 360, plus u need casing unless u already have one

take a 120GB bin file from xbins and take your 20GB out, use the WD drive, reflash it and wallah, you have a 120GB HD for 50 bucks and not 200

If you cant find the 120 you can use the 160 BEVS also. But of course you only can access 120GB of the drive once flashed

perfect timing, I just ordered one aswell. Hddhackr v1.00 Build 20090523 was just released aswell, according to the readme it supports the following WD drives:
Quote:
* Confirmed HddHacker supports
- WD Scorpio Series BEVS/BEAS
- WD Scorpio Blue Series BEVS/BEVT
- WD Scorpio Black Series BEKT/BJKT
- WD VelociRaptor Series

But I ordered a 120gb WD Scorpio BEVS just to be on the safe side.

Hopefully a full content transfer will be possible with xplorer360, or else I'll have plenty of games to play through again :/

Well they may work, but they also produce quite more heat and in a tight casing like that xbox hdd enclosure that might not be too good.

Plus, most of the content the xbox stores on there is not that time critical to load.

It is when you do full game installs, the disc is only checked on boot so the HDD does all the work

actually why would the raptors be considered for use, they don't make them the size of laptop drives so you'd have to modify the enclosure.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136373

might as well go with this one since their supported now, SATAII, but....360's sata is sata1 isn't it? so really, it'd be better to just find a 7200 RPM drive rather than the 5400

incorrect the raptor series in 2.5" is known as the - WD VelociRaptor Series as stated in the HDDHackr info.

WESTERN DIGITAL WD1500BLFS VELOCI RAPTOR, 150GB, 10000RPM, SATA, 16MB CACHE, 2.5"

IcePack mounting frame: the 2.5-inch WD VelociRaptor is enclosed in a backplane-ready 3.5-inch enterprise-class mounting frame with a built-in heat sink.

so you'd have to take the HD out of the enclosure it comes in then move it to another?

I've had a WD2500BEVT Scorpio Blue Series 250gb sitting here doing nothing for about a year and I forgot you could do this for the 360 but the question is will I be able to use it if its a 250gb? I dont care if I lose what ever gb to get it down to 120gb.

EDIT: Okay I tried it and it said the 16 Bit part or something was wrong but I think its the size it doesnt like Sad

yeah, you can only go up to 120Gb as thats the only known 16bit key (well, the 20Gb and 60Gb's are known as well).

Once MS release a larger HDD, then we'll have a new key.

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz - 32GB Kingston HyperX - Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 - EVGA GTX 980 TI SC 6GB - Asus ROG Swift PG278Q

I've read that larger HDD's could be flashed and the 360 would only know it as a 120gb which I dont mind but as you said about the keys.

So, how did your operation go? I just flashed my 120gb BEVS, identifies itself with different information in the BIOS now, so far so good. I just need to wait till tomorrow to buy one of the damned size 6 Torx screwdrivers, as it turns out my trusty 10 does not work on the HDD enclosure... should have checked for that earlier :/

Next steps will be formating the 120gb in the 360, copy over data from 20gb to my PC with xplorer360, copy data from there to the 120gb drive and then hope everything will still work as intended Smile

How are the banning chances? Anything known about that? I assume the HDD's are console specific too like anything else in the console.

Well HDDs are not bound to a console because you can also buy 120gb hdds afterwards. They could however detect that the same HDD Security Sector is used on several HDDs, aswell as that my HDD was initially a Western Digital but now identifies itself as a Hitachi (? not sure about that, but a different maker ?). But I researched this a bit on the net and so far there have been no bans for a hacked hard drive.

Shameless bump!

I just successfully installed the 120gb hdd, transfered stuff over from 20gb hdd via xplorer360. Rockband saves refused to load though, even though the downloaded songs are all still there. GTA4 save worked fine, not much more tested.

I had some particular issues though, I'll put the information here so that it may help someone else.

Several posts on some tutorials revealed that there is a special version of Xplorer360, named xplorer360 extreme2, which allows dumping of Partition 2 (which you apparently need on the new hard drive to play xbox1 games because the emulator is stored in there) aswell as support for the 120gb hdds. It is kinda hard to find so I uploaded it to rapidshare here.

Apparently this worked for most people, but my 120gb hdd was not opened properly by xplorer360 after I formated it in the console, even though console could save stuff fine. In Xplorer360 it just showed up with 1 Partition. Some more googling revealed the following:

Quote:
MANUAL METHOD (summarised TheSpecialist way, tested and verified)

Complete step 1, 2 and 5 above under XPLORER360 IMAGE AND FILE BACKUP METHOD to backup the old drive and flash the new drive. Only when these steps are done, you can continue to create the partitions below.

Create partition 3:

If you want to use xplorer360 with the 120 WDBEVS drive, you can now do that:

1) First add the missing partition manually starting at byte 0x80000 (ATL+G puis tapez 80000) of your WD BEVS. You need to make it look like:

58 54 41 46 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 01

So, the easy way to do this: open your drive with Winhex by pressing F9, select your WD BEVS drive, press <ALT>+G, use position 80000 (hexadec) and then edit these 16 bytes starting at 0x80000 to look like above. Save it, restart the xplorer360 Beta 6 and the FATX error should be gone and you should see 2 partitions now. However, there'll be no data shown yet. if you are using a 120 gb version. 2) To get the data shown for an 120 gb wd BEVS, exit xplorer360 and fire up your hexeditor again, but this time open the xplorer360.exe itself with it. Make sure you're using the beta v6 version. At offset 0xF0C2 (ATL+G puis tapez F0C2) you'll find:

68 77 03

You need to change these 3 bytes into:

00 C2 1A

Save it (make a backup !), restart it and you can now see the contents of the WD BEVS 120 gb, at least I can. BTW, this 'hack' won't work with the 20 gb version, so it's best to make a backup of the xplorer360.exe and use the 'unhacked' original version if you want to access a 20 gb hdd !

Create partition 2:

I did some analysis myself and got it working too Here's how I did it:

1. Open your drive with Winhex (like described before)
2. Goto the menu/edit/define block. Choose beginning: 120EB1000 and end: 130EAFFFF and press 'ok'
3. Goto the menu/edit Fill block. Choose 'Fill with hex values', enter 00 and press 'ok'. This will clear the partition.

4. Now we have to add the partition headers. Goto offset 120EB0000 and edit to make it look like:

120EB0000 58 54 41 46 FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 20 00 00 00 01 00 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF

5. Save it. Now we're almost done, only have to fix up the 'cluster map'.
To do this, goto offset 120EB1000 and edit it to make it look like:

120EB1000 FF FF FF F8 FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Save it and then your drive will show partition 2 in Xplorer360 !

I just needed to do step 1, then inserted the dumped Partition2 and everything is fine now.

I kept it pretty brief because I really dont feel like writing a huge tutorial, but these were key steps that were not in every tutorial. If you do need help just post here, I might lurk and answer.
