I'm just wondering if anyone has any insight in to what is holding back some of these great rail sims from getting together with someone like sid meier and making a rail sim game that is actually fun for regular folks. The last decent rail game we had was RT2 or 3 depending on your taste, railroads was pretty dumbed down, but..they made it.
the railsims obviously generate enough interest on their own to support themselves, and if the economic engine was included as an optional feature it would appeal to both crowds. Those who want some financial challenges against AI, and those who want to drive their trains. As well, they could combine them. They could include things like hiring different skilled drivers to drive the other trains, and other economic things.. I mean given the work that goes into these sims it seems like it would be trivial to add this stuff on.. there is little visual change, perhaps an interface, but its all behind the scenes stuff. You could have premade stations people could plop down or ones that people could design to the utmost, etc.
