I'm away from home for some time and I'm piggybacking a wireless network of someone near me, but signal is low,I get disconnected all the time and the wireless point keeps vanishing for whole minutes.

I'm using a laptop at the moment, can I use a wireless receiver/amplifier or something to improve the situation ? Confused

I love these ghetto solutions! Very Happy Not because they work because most of the time they don't do squat but nothing says nerd more than aluminium foil.

I have used one Micronet usb wireless and it was good only for indoor use, whereas my friend with his Acer could find a signal from more than 30m (clearing) and use it daily (until somebody found out and cut him off Very Happy). I did buy that usb thing like two or three yrs ago so things have probably evolved since than.

And aluminum foil is good to keep aliens away from my head Laughing

see to your wlan adapter settings
as in the device settings in device manager - not the regular network stuff
and see if it has a setting for power saving there and turn it off or lowest possible setting
it'll eat more battery but range will be greatly extended
