Okay so this happend to me a few hours ago, kind of retarded in a way. So I was sitting at my computer and having my lunch while watching a movie. So once I got done i stepped up from my chair and then started walking but the thing is that my foot got stuck on the wire going from my joystick to the computer.

the joystick was on the ground and my computer is up on a table so i took like a step and the whole fucking computer fell on the floor Laughing made a terrible sound but yeah. Anyway worse then that i have no case doors on either side. so it landed on the side where you see the motherboards back.

So yeah nothing special fell off or anything, i picked up the comp put it back into place and so on then i booted it up again. What happened was that my computer just randomly turned itself off after like 2-3 mins of booting. So i checked power wire etc, made sure that they were not loose or anything. i booted it up again and the same thing happend but it took a lot less time. then i did it again and then it went going for 5-8 mins so there's no special "time". So yeah the problem is that the computer just randomly turns off after booting up.

So what do you guys suggest that I should test?

Thanks.

considering the situation, it could be a shitload of things. the psu (or any other part) could be fucked, maybe a heatsink broke loose and it's overheating.

take it apart and look for any superficial things like broken/bent condensators etc, check the heatsinks. hdds could also be damaged.

if it still shuts off, it's probabaly time to play trial and error amd exchange parts till you find the faulty one(s).

Yeah thanks, gonna start by taking a look at the cpu then work my self through the components. What temperature should the cpu be at if the heatsink is broken?

taking readings while in bios:

12v: 11,928V
5v: 5.136V
3.3v:3.328V
Vcore: 1.312v
cpu fan speed: 1939rpm
mb: 31 celsius
cpU: 73 celsius

the cpu temp at 73 is really worrying, i guess starting with the cpu is the best right?

First off, how did you ever come up with the idea of putting your computer on a table? Laughing Didn't the (already-happened) scenario of your computer falling to the ground occur to you? Laughing With all the wires attached to it i wouldn't risk putting my machine on a meter-high table...

well, i've had it there for over 5 years so Laughing. I guess i've learned my self a lesson but this would have never happend if it wasn't for my joystick otherwise it has worked fine for years Very Happy

Anyway, i still havent tried it. in the process of cleaning the cpu atm, lots of dust. ill report back a bit later. Btw, do you guys have a tip on how to clean the lower part of a core2duo heatsink? since you cant take of the fan i gotta peel of the dust with a small metal thingy which i found. my vacuum cleaner isnt strong enough to pull it all off.

compressed air, maybe with a thin tube attached so you can stick it right inside. i also have a pair of medical tweezers for that, they're less than 1mm at one end, great for cleaning even the stuff that you can't blow out.

Be sure to close the window next time you play with joystick. You may get upset and throw joystick out of the window and PC with it.
