So,
Is it worth getting a xbox 360 controller just for the trigger buttons (the ones that you can slightly press and shit?)
I still am not able to drive cars in GTA IV. They all do burnouts as soon as I press the accelerator and swirve left and right and crashes into the car or the wall.

It's worth getting a 360 controller for the almost universal support in games nowadays, without having to configure shit.
Also, like you mentioned, most games now make use of the analog triggers, so yes for that as well.

Universal support is not really a problem nowadays with the xbox emulator thingy.
hmmmm...
Would it help in the driving in GTA IV ?

Eh, pad emulator supports only less than 50% games that work with 360 pad.

Yes, driving feels better with a pad.

there's no point in getting any other controller for the PC now other than a 360 one, it's basically the official gamepad for the PC nowadays most devs make their game 100% compatible with it.

I have a Cordless Rumblepad 2. Excellent controller, loved it from the day I bought it and still do. However I'm starting to convince myself I need to buy a 360 pad.
Just hate having an expensive and extremely high quality pad sitting there for nothing, but 360 as become so pervasive I'm starting to think I have no choice.
*sigh*

The best gamepad for PC in my opinion is Logitech Chillstream. Same buttons and trigger as a 360 controller but has a better design (very comfortable in hands) and chilling option (your hands won't be sweaty anymore). The only disadvantage is a cable connection.

not so much that devs make there games work for it exclusively, it's the fact PC games now days are nothing more than 360 ports.

True, but to get with the flow without hassle or half assed gamepad controller emulators why not get a 360 pad that's 100% compatible.

Yeah.. you can hate consoles all you want, but there is no denying that the 360 controller is great for PC. Some games just don't really work well with mouse and keyboard (usually ports, yeah)
Like dead space which had really weird mouse control, it's just fucked up and is like 3 million times better with a gamepad (although mouse and keyboard would have been better if the mouse control actually worked properly)

mouse control on dead space was mainly fixed after turning off vsync I think it was.
anywho, I installed the old school road rash game that was made for windows 95, my 360 game pad worked instantly on it with the button 1, 2, 3 etc config thats what I call SUPPORT

I tried that, didn't really help me :-(
It was like it was treating the mouse like an analog stick... so faster mouse movement was like having the analog stick further to a side.
But that resulted in very low precision as it's just not how mouse control usually works and slowly moving the mouse did almost nothing at all.
It was just really annoying and frustrating trying to play like that.

It was still better than the controller aiming for me... :\ What I did when I played it was using the controller for normal gameplay, but when precision shooting was needed, I used the mouse; for me it was tons more precise for me.
