Hell yeah!

Syncmaster 550s FTW. Besides, it's a perfect match for my old 8800GTS 320 Mb.

Sure. With 4xAA, no jaggies anywhere. Only use more if the UI would be better in higher res.

Of course, that's thanks to the decently sized screen, none of that ovesized bullshit (I just say that because I don't have any of that "oversized bullshit" of course Very Happy).

Let me get this straight, so there are not misunderstandings. You have a 1680x1050 16:10 monitor, but use a 1024x768 4:3 resolution? Laughing

Someone post a facepalm please.

Why would I use that, widescreen monitors are pretty widespread now.

If i play a game on the monitor it's 1680:1050, if it's a console port or a gamepad game I play it on the TV (they look much better there) at 1920:1080 which is 16:9, monitor is 16:10.

Back when I had a CRT I didn't mind playing lower resolutions at all.
I often played 1024x768 or even 800x600 if it was necessary to get a good framerate.

But now that I have a 22" widescreen lcd display I don't really have a choice. Scaling on LCDs looks horrible and lowering the resolution drastically decreases the image quality, so much that most games are unplayable.

So eventhough I'd still like to play in 1024x768 I'm forced to play at 1680x1050, so none of your poll answers apply to people in my situation!

What's wrong with running my desktop resolution at 1024x768 and my GAMES at 1680x1050?
Am I supposed to be staring in wonder at how beautifully my wallpaper renders on my fucking desktop er what?

No but it depends on what you use your desktop space for on a daily basis, for one you only get a fraction of the space for your icons and other crap, and if you are anything like me I like to keep mine clean and tidy but there are times when im doing alot of work (Graphics - web design) that it gets full of crap and I need to space. Not to mention the high resolutions are handy for creating print graphics.

I keep 3 icons on my desktop - My Computer, My Docs, and Network - the rest accessed via quick launch. I don't need desktop space, and I prefer the larger text/icon sizes of 1024x768 (easier on the eyes, no I'm not blind) without having to change it in every app.

Obviously native is the best way to go, but if it's a good PC monitor the resolution doesn't matter that much. I've found the experience of upgrading my PC monitor really boring... whereas quality varies considerabily with TVs and I get an awe factor (or an awe-shit! type moment) with PC monitor it's always the same... just bigger screen real estate Very Happy

I sometimes game in 640x480, it really depends on how old the game is and what resolutions it supports. Many old games particularly dos based games, are restricted to such low resolutions.

some older games arent just as good as newer ones
graphics arent everything man , Grim Fandango is a prime example , nothing like it out there even after 10+ years.
or Little Big Adventure , Fallout , etc

Eh? old junk you say? Many of these titles are significantly more entertaining than most being put out by publishers today

Even the boxes of classic games are much cooler than the POS they put games nowadays.

I always use higher when I can but old games indeed.
I recently picked up Majesty through Stardock and been playing it like a madman. Doesn't support much higher then that. (As a sidenote. Can't wait for 2!!)

Only the games that have no larger resolution. And even then I'll fight tooth and nail to get it higher (widescreengamingforum.com is one of my favorite sites Very Happy).

That said, I don't really mind playing on lower res if there's no alternative whatsoever... Have to admit tho that old 2D games have stood the test of time way better than early 3D. Those games look so revolting now.
