In idle my GTX280 temperatures is 52-54C degrees. Is this normal?
Once i push the gpu to 100%, the temperatures rise at 89C and settle at 90-91C.
I know that at 105C gpu jumps into safe mode. But i having this temperatures for months and it didn't toast or anything. Anyone with a suggestion? Am I safe from toasting my gpu?

@ NightlyGregor
My good ol' 7800gtx was running at these temps, almost at 100 at heavy load, with 105-110 alert temp, lol, crazy !

I was lucky and that card turned out to be superdurable, it never failed me, still works great, using it right this moment. I'm waiting for a replacement for my faulty gtx260 Sad

i got a gtx275 recently and holy shit that thing gets hot
AND it's got two fans and it's loud as hell
this reminds me of the end of the last cpu generation where every cpu overheated and there were no stable machines for a few years
is this supposed to be progress?
my not-too-old-actually 8600gt was cool and quiet as a whisper
are the new ati cards this hot and loud?

ati tend to get even hotter especially x2 series

come to think of it, u pay 500 euro or so for the top end card and u still need to pay xtra to get decent cooling for it, what a lame shit imo

I remember when I bought my uberpriced 7800gtx (525euros) and was astounded by its sheer size ! And that it needed direct psu connection for power !

And now my gtx260 is even fucking bigger and has 2 power inputs ! Well, fuck me. At least I bought it 150euros, hehe.

My GTX 285 idles at 49-52C (depending on my room temp), at max load it sits around 86-88C. These were the temps when it was freshly installed about a month ago, and they're still holding steady, so that's not factoring dust buildup into the equation.

Also, stock clocked.

My old build had 7900GS and was running at 98-99 at load and reaching about the same numbers like yours. Never failed for 4 years.

I'm having the same problem, gtx275 running too hot for my liking. Also looked at the Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme GTX280. Thing is, I have a Thermaltake Swing case http://www.tt-germany.com/product_gallery.aspx?PARENT_CID=C_00000247&id=C_00000248&name=Swing&ov=&ovid=&parent_cp=

and I already had to push the hdd case thing forward a little bit to fit the card in. the AC cooler is even longer than that and I don't know how to fit that in and I don't wanna have to buy an aftermarket cooler AND a new case, only to find out that tha fucking card doesn't fit in that one as well. So I guess I'll just have to learn to accept the noise. Because the stock cooler works just fine when you set it to at least 80% at which point it is very loud IMO.

edit: I found a nice forumthread about the problems one may encounter installing the AC Accelero on a GTX275
