|
 |
Hey guys, i'm trying to do some upgrades, and as I'm presently between jobs money is ultra-limited. With that in mind, do these components work together?
This list is currently compiled from NCIX, so if I can find these cheaper elsewhere, do tell Bear in mind I'm canadian, so US outlets are useless to me.
ASUS M3A78-EM AMD 780G mATX AM2+ PCI-E16 PCI-E1 2PCI SATA HDMI Video Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard
$93
AMD Athlon X2 7550 Dual Core Processor Socket AM2+ 2.5GHZ 3MB 65NM 95W OEM
$85
G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK PC2-8500 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit
$40
ASUS Radeon HD 4670 512MB DDR3 PCI-E DVI HDMI VGA Video Card *IR-$5*
$80 ($70 after MIR)
Before you all wander off screaming "lol fail hardware get this instead" I need to update EVERYTHING. My system is so old that at this point I have to do a mobo upgrade. Which means now I need new ram, SATA drives, PCI-E components...the works. I can't afford to do that, so if I can get a good base to work from, maybe in a month I can do a video card upgrade, next month I can do ram. See where I'm going with this?
So in your opinion, for now will this be enough to get me by? Can I go cheaper? Maybe get a 4550? or even a 3650? I don't need mega graphics...just playing WoW right now, and some Fallout 3. What do you guys think?
i can has computar?!

hi there , bang for the buck systems are a speciality of mine
ill link you from the canadian newegg
AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz Socket AM3 65W
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103681
$89
4 dollars more expensive , but alot faster , alot cooler, uses alot less power, and serious overclocking headroom , you can undervolt this baby and OC it to 3.3ghz at the same time.
ASUS M3A76-CM AM2+/AM2 AMD 760G Micro ATX
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131376
$85
8 dollars cheaper, basicly the same mainboard but with less powerful onboard video but it doesnt matter since you get a dedicated card
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231172
$39
BIOSTAR VA4673NH51 Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814141081
$70
20 dollar cheaper, i wouldnt ever buy any slower or cheaper card new if you intent to run any sort of 3d game , 4670 is a great card low power low heat, but everything cheaper is slower by quite a big margin, cant go wrong with $70
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136074
$60
Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Black SATA
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030
$28
COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-460-PMSR-A3 460W
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171028

you have prob fucked up your mobo or your psu
the pwr_fan connector is an output to your fans , and should only have casefans on it , it is NOT intended to have anything from your PSU connected to.

"The power supply also has a 3 pin connector that says can be plugged into one of the fan plugs on the mobo to monitor supply health. The mobo had a spot labled 'pwr_fan' so I plugged it in there. "
you have a link to a manual where it actually says to do that?
asus z170-A || core i5-6600K || geforce gtx 970 4gb || 16gb ddr4 ram || win10 || 1080p led samsung 27"

Can't have fucked up the mobo....it wouldn't work if I did. I'm glad that Antec still has the manual for the powersupply, and it seems I'm over-reacting. Here's the blurb that I was talking about:
Quote: | SmartPower 2.0 features an innovate design to help decrease noise during normal use, but
which still allows for superior cooling capabilities as loads increase. To this end SmartPower 2.0
features both an internal intake fan as well as a unique external exhaust fan. The internal intake
fan operates when the power supply is turned on. It rotates slowly to blow out the hot air from
the power supply and case, and is thermally controlled, speeding up as heat increases. The
external exhaust fan remains off to make sure your computer maintains a quiet computing
environment until the power supply senses the required temperature to turn on the external
exhaust fan. |
So it seems the rear fan only turns on when it gets too hot. Cool...it never used to do that I don't think...
Quote: | We've also included a 3-pin fan signal connector. Connect it to one of the fan connectors on
your motherboard. You can monitor the speed of the internal intake fan through your
motherboard BIOS or through the monitoring software included with your motherboard. |
Says right there that I can connect it. Why would antec lie?
Anyway, I think I'm done panicking. Everything seems to work. Now I just need to get used to windows 7 :s I'm not liking it so far....

Well the system is a hell of a lot quieter. Freaked me the hell out when I turned it on but couldn't even hear the cpu fan. >_< I miss my old KT400 system. Everything was so much simpler in those days...
So what do I need to do now? Install chipset drivers? Or did those go the way of the dodo too?

yes you need to install any up to date drivers you'll need, chipset being the most important.

I wouldn't have gone with asus anyways :\ They've become very hit or miss with quality on their boards lately, last computer I built last year I had to RMA the board 2 times before I got one that worked. Another asus board I had came with a bad memory slot but didn't RMA it cause i never planned on putting mroe than 1 stick in it.
First time I used gigabyte it started up right away no issues and still no issues.
