Silent Hunter 5 ventures into uncharted territory and takes players behind the periscope of a German U-boat to take on the Allied Forces in famous battles across the vast Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. For the first time in the history of the series, players can live the life of a submarine captain from a first-person view and lead a crew in a critical campaign.

Silent Hunter 5 key features:

* VIEW AS A CAPTAIN: Walk through highly detailed submarines in the new first-person view and access every part of your U-boat.
* BECOME A REAL LEADER: Interact with your crew, watch them perform their daily jobs and experience the tension and fear inside the U-boat through the new advanced order system.
* WAR STRATEGIES: Choose your own strategy and select your targets with a new objective-driven, dynamic campaign.
* ENEMY REACTIONS: Open new locations, upgrades and resupply possibilities, while the Allied ships adjust dynamically to your approach. Your actions will directly impact the evolution of the campaign.
* NEW USER INTERFACE: Prowl the waters with a brand-new user interface. Now, every beginner can successfully command a sub while remaining free of confusion. In expert mode, experienced players will be provided all the necessary information and controls to command the sub completely on their own.
* CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE: Experience the most realistic and immersive Silent Hunter ever created. Improved environment graphics create a powerful level of immersion as you operate authentic, highly detailed U-boats and fight against surface ships.

Silent Hunter 5 is scheduled for release in Early 2010.

Brilliant!, time to put on that ol captains uniform again hey Smile.
I guess "early 2010" will be more like summer 2010, but still worth the wait. The new command system looks a pretty interesting, but hope the "expert" mode still allows full control of all stations (like said in the press release). Good move to go back to the Atlantic theater of operations, was a lot of rumors about nuke subs and what have you, but nothing really beats fighting in a "Typ VII C" boot Wink.

I always prefered the Fleet Boat gameplay, sinking japs, but might as well give this a go. I'll just have to try the game at launch, delete it, wait for the patches that are already obvious we'll need, and wait until the first decent mega-mod comes out.

I'm glad they went back to German U-Boats, 4 just didn't have the same epic feel when playing as Americans.

To be honest though I'm kind of surprised that they've lasted this long. Sure, their games are good, but I always thought the market for subsims was very niche - thus limiting resulting sales.
I wonder what kind of budget Ubisoft gives them? Must be shoestring.

Coxy did some nice little changes for visual stuff if i recall Very Happy, I think the main ones you should look out for are the Trigger Maru guy, is he still banned on subsim btw ? lol that saga did make me laugh...

Anyhow he has his own forums so he still dedicates time to the mod, and warhawk from subsim still posts to him there..

I think neil personaly got a bit anal about it all with the GWX mod team stuff.. It is after all a good site traffic puller for him.

No, it's made by our neighbours, the Romanians. Smile

As for the limited sales: well, since this series is the only one on the market that deals with WW2 submarine warfare, every fan have to buy this if they want their sub-dosage.That alone means a pretty decent market, especially since the SH series is not just fun, accessible, but pleasing to the eye.

Fantastic news Smile

Great to see them go back to the without competition most interesting submarine theater in history. SH4 was all right but let's be honest, you want to command a VIIIC or XXI in the Atlantic rather than a Gato in the Pacific.

Great news indeed!! Has the kind of deep (hehe) thinking, micro manag, and simulation just right. Agreed with the above the atlantic is the place to be with a U-boat.

All in all just great, and a pitty the simulations with great and epic stories on the pc are becoming so rare.. Crying or Very sad

Hmm doesn't look better than SH IV .. same engine?
Not that i'm really complaining. Maybe this time they'll focus on making the experience as good as 3 was.

Everyone I know churns when I mention the words Submarine Simulation, but really it couldn't be further from the truth, trudging through the deep ocean waters dodging depth charges is amazing.
I just couldn't get into the fourth one.. even though the graphics were amazing, some reason it couldn't come near SH III for me. This time maybe.

The vanilla SH4 was spectacular, but far from realistic. Only mods made it look believable. Looking at these pictures, it seems SH5 will look as realistic as possible from the beggining and modders will only need to make slight adjustments, not complete overhauls.

Oh man didn't realize this was announced. Three was amazing, so hoping this would be a return to form after a disappointing 4. Being able to walk around the sub sounds awesome.
