Think James Cameron's Avatar and you will get a pretty good idea about the setting when it comes to Headup Game's new title, Meridian: New World.

Meridian is a sci-fi strategy game that focuses heavily on the single player story arch. It is likely due out next year but we have just been passed the new trailer so lets take a look...

You are Commander Daniel Hanson and you are among the first to arrive on the planet Meridian. As you explore you begin to uncover dark secrets surrounding the planet and its history.

Meridian: New World will try and deliver the player countless options that directly impact the world and your story. Each decision should help guide your own battle strategies, which in turn offers varying equipment options for your units and special abilities to your character.

The game then plays through in classic RTS style where you can use your abilities in battle and directly influence the flow of battle.

It doesnt take an RTS specialist to say that the game actually looks a tonne like Starcraft 2 but HeadsUp are stating that their focuse is on singleplayer story development. The true impact of this approach is yet to be seen as little seems to be explored in the trailer and they are obviously aware that Starcraft 2 has a lot of the RTS Sci-fi multiplayer genre locked down, so that wouldnt be a very viable direction for the title to go in anyway.

it's hard to judge a RTS just by this trailer, but it doesn't look that good.

Played through the early access missions(3 in total) and so far so good. Smile
Plays like the old starcraft and C&C games with stealth and tower defense mission(which was a bit weird in my book).

I liked the dialogue between missions, talking with your crew and making decisions is something I would like to see in more games. Razz

Hopefully more content is available soon.

That's one comment I've learned to ignore completely Laughing People who complain games are too slow, generally want their games to be ACTION ACTION ACTION. Proper strategy and planning takes time - AoE II was slow as well and that was a brilliant game.

In it´s current state it´s a starcraft/C&C clone with bad unit animations and slow gameplay mechanics.

Headup Games announced today that Meridian: New World, a single player RTS/RPG hybrid developed by Ede Tarsoly, has entered the third phase of Early Access on Steam. In addition to the usual bug fixes there is – as with both preceding phases – new content to explore. There is also a nice surprise in store for users of the Standard Edition of the game.

The most important – according to the press release – new features introduced are two new campaign missions “Control” and “Sector 16-2B”, which include more visits to your ship, giving you additional options to uncover parts of the story. In addition the Commander Level cap has been raised to 25, allowing you to unlock more Commander Abilities and more combat options.

Along with these changes, users of the Standard Edition of the game now have access to the Map Editor, to create and share fun content through Steam Workshop. Users of the Contributors Edition of the game will of course also receive a little something, in the form of exclusive access to Image and Video material as well as developers’ notes from early stages of Meridians development, handpicked by developer Ede Tarsoly.

I don't think we played the same AoE II, AoE II was definitely not slow even on slow Laughing. Atleast in multiplayer that is, the amount of micro and macro probably surpasses SC2 due the sheer difficulty of actually accomplishing a successful manoeuvre.

Still I know what you're getting at, slow games are not in general bad games. Supreme Commander is a perfect example of a slow game on large maps.

Only played the first two missions so far. The textures look very clean and nice. Most of the functions are pretty basic, and some are missing (can't zoom, no command queue for units).
But considering only one dev made this game:

I would gladly buy the game to support the dev, but sadly i have not really time to play this at the moment or the money to spend

Yeah, the zoom is a big thing missing in this game, was hoping they would add it in, still, a great play nonetheless.

Hmmm, got to mission 11 and the game tells me my crews loyalty is -2/11. Laughing
Damn,I wonder if dialogue choices affect that rating or the amount of troops you lose during certain missions.
Maybe I need to replay some earlier missions. Hate being the asshole commander. Sad

For a one-man-project this was pretty good.

If he improves on his last game and adds more advanced features from other RTS games, i'm sure it will be a nice game.
