Singularity
- Official web page: inSingularity
- Publisher: Activision
- Developer: Raven
- Genre: FPS
- Release date: 2009
- Story/Description:
Quote: | The story revolves around an unnamed island where Russian experiments took place during the height of the Cold War era. At points during the games, locales will undergo a shift in time where the area is either reversed or moved forward through time. Ruined buildings will become new structures featuring Russian political decorations, and one level involving a battleship makes use of this, as the player will enter in the 1950's period and then try to escape in mid-battle while it crumbles around them after one of the aforementioned shifts occur.

- News article: gameinformer
- Screenshots: inSingularity
- Trailer: teaser trailer
- Gameplay details:
Spoiler: | The gameplay will revolve around a device, known as the TMD (Time Manipulation Device). It will be able to move a single object through the spectrum of time. It will be utilized both in classic FPS-style combat as a weapon and in Half-Life style puzzle solving. For instance, using the TMD's "rewind" function on a human opponent will send them into a "placental" state where they revert to an almost amoebic state before dying slowly. Examples of the device being used in puzzles involve sending a lock forward in time to watch it rust and crumble away, sending a broken bridge backwards to watch it return to a usable state, and sending a tree trunk forwards while standing on it as it grows to reach higher areas.
The TMD has four Announced functions. A Rewind, Forward, Stasis, and a pulse type function. All these functions can be upgraded to where the rewind, forward, and stasis have an almost instantaneous effect. The upgraded pulse function has more range and stronger effect. Stasis and Pulse used together create an effect reminiscent of Half Life's Gravity Gun. In an Example, an enemy may throw a grenade which you can "catch" with the stasis command; you may hold this grenade indefinitely as all time around it is frozen and the grenade will not detonate. Then using pulse you may fire the grenade back at the enemy who threw it.
Raven announced in their interview by GameInformer that the player will not have regenerating health such as shields, and will instead have a life bar. Raven believes that this will increase exploration for the game and not create a rushed experience. |
thanks to JBeckman for pointing out this game's existence

the screens look like ps2 to me, but the trailer is alright, and the gameplay makes it sound like a smarter timeshift.
the last game that i've played from raven was quake4 and that sucked, hopefully this'll be better.

Quake 4 was cool, lay off the booze.
Actually all Raven games are cool, but not "awesome"

Raven is developing X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which also uses UE3.

I don't see any reason to believe that. They're still on the new Wolfenstein, which is out soon. Just because they're using UE3 is no cause to think that they've cut ties with id; I'd imagine that it has something to do with the Doom 3 engine being so old, and id Tech 5 not being available to license yet (afaik).

Don't know why, but seeing the trailer and screens reminds me of Timeshift.

its Unreal 3 all unreal games look like blocky washed up crap , they only make up with their map streaming and über shader effects ... well 3,5 adds only more models , water and mass physics and more über shader effects to make up for those awful washed up textures

That's what you get when an engine developers focuses on consoles with 512MB of RAM.
