Microsoft Officially Drops Xbox 360 Elite Price
August 27, 2009

Ending a week of speculation and analyst predictions, Microsoft has officially announced the black Xbox 360 Elite console will see its price dropped $100 to $299 beginning tomorrow, Friday August 28.

The Xbox 360 Pro will see its price dropped $50 to $249.99 but will no longer be produced. They are gone for good once current quantities are sold through. The Arcade console will remained priced at $199.99 to compete directly with Nintendo Wii.

Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are now more similar than ever. Both the Elite and new PS3 Slim sport black finishes, a 120GB hard drive and $299.99 price point. PS3 Slim has the added bonus of Blu-ray, while Xbox 360 Elite touts Netflix integration and, coming soon, Twitter and Facebook apps.

One glaring difference between the black boxes are provided cabling. The PS3 Slim will come with an HDMI cable while the Xbox 360 Elite does not. Microsoft claims the removal of the cable is to pass savings along to consumers. This seems like a poor marketing choice given the relatively inexpensiveness of the cable now that they have become more mainstream.

This also applies to the UK and other parts of the world, as well.

The 360 Arcade is set to rise from £129 to £159. They're dropping the originally-included 5 XBLA title disk.

X360 Pro (60GB model) is obsolete and has been withdrawn from sale.

Aye, quite surprising actually. Only about $30 more than the American counterpart, so it's not "zomg! thieves!" nonsense like Fatfuck Newell.

Amazon has a 250GB model listed for preorder for €279 including Forza 3 and two wireless controllers. Good deal considering the price of the current Elite model with 120GB. I just wiish they drop the second controller and include the wifi adapter instead.

That's fantastic news! My 120GB HDD was almost full, only 7GB left. Now with the upcoming 250GB, that - hopefully - means another hack to allow a 3rd party HDD to work.

Oh and before anyone bitches about "Amazon Germany not being a legitimate source" - pay attention to certain facts first, like how they listed the PS3 Slim over half a month before it was even *announced* Wink

Why would I be kidding? I have tons of XBLA games, DLC for almost every game I play regularly, as well as full installs of around 14-15 games. 120GB goes fast >_>

If you've never installed a game mate, you seriously have NO idea how fast it can be Wink BenQ is quick, but it's not as quick as from the HDD - nor as silent either.

Trust me, HDD-installing is fantastic Very Happy

games you play in general would be good installed, just install before playing and loading of levels and shit takes less time

As SpykeZ said, it's great to do before you even start playing games. Especially for large games or ones with lots of loading (in my experience, games like GTAIV/Last Remnant/Lost Odyssey/Force Unleashed all show massive benefits when loaded from the HDD)

But yeah man, give it a try one day. Pick a game you are likely to play often, you'll see the difference ^_^

Yeah I guess, but space is an issue and would probably still be after some time if I got a bigger HDD. And it takes some time to install games (saw a friend do it). But yeah, definitely worth it with games like Bioshock or Fallout 3. But I generally don't find the loading times in games that annoying. All in all it would take muuuch longer time to install every game, even tho I could do something else while doing it. But well, thats just my point of view Smile

you know my gaming style tho, the faster I get the game the better Very Happy I wouldnt use more time and space on a game if I didn't have to. At least not until iv finished it^^
