I am just back from the Gamescom in Cologne.
I got there on press day through some contacts
I thought I would post this in PC Games section, as most games are going to be released on the PC.
I won't be putting up videos or so, you can get them in better quality on Gametrailers.
Games I played:
Starcraft 2:
There were loads of PC's, and you could play for 20 minutes, then the game would shut down.
You could play either the Terran campaign or a skirmish match, I played a bit of the campaign. The game is really great, you accept missions on your ship which gives you rewards such as new units and so.
Performance was good, gfx looked fine.
But 20 minutes isn't anything enough to play this, it was over so soon
Singularity:
I only played it for about 5 minutes, but the athmosphere was really great, had a nice feeling to it. The puzzles with the time altering are a bit confusing at first, but it's really fun and has a new feel to it. Looking forward to this.
Lost Planet 2:
I played about 10 minutes of Coop gameplay. The game was really hard, and controls felt somewhat clunky. Visuals were nice, but it didn't run very smooth...
Operation Flashpoint 2:
The first PC I tried to play this on crashed while loading the game.
They than gave me another PC, but when the level loaded it crashed as well. Didn't get to play the game...
Uncharted 2:
The level of the E3 video was playable, really looking forward to this.
God of War 3:
Again as Uncharted 2, the already known level was playable. Feels really good, can't wait
NFS:Shift:
Played one race, graphics are really good and has a nice "speed" feel to it. Driving demanding, it does NOT play like old NFS games.
Games I saw presentations of:
Modern Warfare 2:
They had the "Cliffhanger" level again, but this time there were no cuts and it was the whole level. Games looks awesome, although I had hoped for a new level or even a playable version...
C&C4:
A 20 minute presentation of the GDI, the game looked good and really tries something different with the Walkers instead of bases.
On Thursday, John Kucan (or however he is spelled, I mean Kane) will be at the convention himself. But I won't be there...
Mafia 2:
They showed some things you can do between missions, and a new mission where you have to blow up some cars. Game looked very polished, but it was a prerecorded video.
Borderlands:
A nice walkthrough explaining the game. Looks addicting with all the collecting and experience gathering, while still being an FPS. Has a 4 player Coop mode that looks nice.
Bioshock 2:
They only showed the trailer that is already on the internet for some time now...
Rage:
Didn't get to see it unfortunately, you had to sign up on a list and only special reporters were invited.
Star Wars: The old Republic:
Same as Rage above.
Halo 3: ODST
I had 10 minutes of 4 player coop. It was a bit hectic, because nobody really knew what to do, the level seemed to just be a big room where you had to survive. Graphics weren't that good, too...
Overall it was really great seeing the games in action.
There was also a Diablo 3 booth where you could play, but even right after the opening the lines were so full it was ridiculous, I didn't want to wait an hour just to play a few minutes (timelimit like Starcraft 2).
There were also many more games, but those are the ones I was looking for the most.
Just ask if you are interested in more

Well I can see he could, but I don't really see how that is something I could laugh about.

It might be so. There were about 12 PC's running the game, and people were playing. Maybe it's just not polished enough yet to run smooth. I didn't want to make this game bad, this is just what happened...

You didn't really give any thoughts on StarCraft 2. Did you play the original? What does the new one feel like in comparison. Faithful enough, samey, or fresh? It's hard to get a feeling for it from videos, even with all the cool features.

Thanks for the Mini reviews
Have you checked the 1C stand? They have a new RTS to be announced on this exhibition.
After their latest RTS Men of War and Theater of War i´m very interested in any RTS that they publish.
PS: Not referring to Men of War - Red Tide, an already announced expansion

It fells very much like the first one. It's 3D of course, but it's just like everyone wants it to be. Units look like what you'd expect, although this time they have more different sizes.
Firebats for example are much larger than simple space marines, and the Hydralisks looked much taller than the humans.
The terrain was somewhat unepected, it was a simple landscape with farms, where you had to evacuate civilians from the Zerg (protect convois). Not very "space"-like, but I guess they have more different terrain settings now.
Also I did NOT watch the cutscenes, as you had only 20 minutes and I wanted to spend that time playing, not watching some movie.
Overall, it is really Starcraft, you get used to it in like 5 seconds if you know the original. I didn't play Starcraft 1 for 5 years or so, but knew immediately what to do.
This game definitely lives up to it's hype, despite Blizzard butchering it with stupid copy protection.

I checked out many things, but there were just SO many things to see, I concentrated on the "big" titles first. I probably saw the game you mentioned later on that day, but after several hours I just couldn't take all of it in really.

Make sure to got to hall 6 first. This is where all the "big" games are. Hall 7 has the gigantic Playstation area where you can play Uncharted 2 and GoW3. Hall 9 has ESL and so, but wasn't THAT interesting after all. And Hall 8 has a big Wii area.
Make sure to check out the outside area next to hall 8. They have a bodydiving machine or what it is called, where you can "fly" in midair. Unfortunately it wasn't open when I went there...
