I'm looking to find some true desktop intrigration, I currently have winamp sitting on one moniter, a webpage embeded into the desktop of the other and I use the beta netscape/firefox to browse. While I sit far away I load up a Media Center program (Media Portal) which deals with my media needs via a remote. But Im just not happy.

Im looking for applications that will allow me to slot everything into a smaller space, maybe a webbrowser that sits inside of my desktop wallpaper? MSN protol program that sits inside of a web browser (but that doesnt suck..)?

I know I ask a lot, but through your "Best known desktop apps" at me, anything you think will make my life as a geek easier..

Last I knew Opera Web Browser supported integrated messaging (MSN protol?) and email. There are plugins for Firefox that support Winamp within browser as well as email checkers and stuff.

Opera got an inbuilt messaging client yes, but It's an IRC client. I would recommend Firefox too.

Ok thanks for the info, how about you all chuck your other used applications at me, and of course, what they do Wink!

A Few I Use:
Google Deskbar - Like the google web toolbar but it sits on your toolbar
Meedio / Media Portal - HTPC interfaces Smile

Linux has a VERY powerful HTPC app called MythTV. It blows away Meedio and Media center edition. I know some who uses it and it's incredible. I will use it later on my htpc.

The Firefox plugin that controls winamp through your browser is called FoxyTunes. It works pretty good ...
