|
 |
I'm hoping this will be a some sort of combined thread for soft-modding talk, thoughts and opinions
I bought a Wii this Saturday, came with System Menu 4.1E. Had it for a couple of hours, then I used bannerbomb to get the Homebew Channel, CIOS Rev 14, Patched IOS60 and USB Loader GX. Then I took an old 120 gb IDE drive i had lying around, put it in a cheap Revoltec USB HDD enclosure that I never used since I bought it a year ago ( ) and it now plays games through USB flawlessly (atleast the games i've tried so far!).
I'm totally new to Wii modding though, i started reading about modding the Wii and soft-modding the day before i bought mine, so even if i managed to softmod my console, i'm still very unsure of certain things. cIOSes and WAD's are two things i've yet to understand (well i understand that IOS is the Wii's "BIOS", more or less?)
But some Q's to get this started:
- When I installed my USB Loader GX channel, i only installed a forwarder, wich now loads from SD. How do i set it so it loads from my USB drive?
- What USB loader do you guys use? Is there a better one than GX?
- And is it possible to exit back to the GX menu, rather than exiting back to the channels, when you want to switch game?
Any hints, tips and general info is appreciated, i'd like to learn as much as possible!
Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc

_SiN_ wrote: | - What USB loader do you guys use? Is there a better one than GX? | coverfloader: http://code.google.com/p/wiicoverflow/
please take into account that none usb loader is able to play all games to date. the dol reloading games like metroid prime trilogy are currently a problem.

additional, use following great homebrew apps:

Thanks!
Definately gonna install Homebrewbrowser.
FTPii sounds good too, if i understood it correctly - it's basically a FTP app for the SD-card, so I can access it without having to remove it from the console, right?

Seconded opinion for CoverFlow. Man that Loader is fantastic! IIRC, doesn't CF get the image and game data from the net?

Great info for him manu.
I use a loader called Neo gamma most of the time. It's not graphically impressive but it loads some games that I have problems loading with other loaders. I have a couple loaders (including GX) on my SD just in case one doesn't so the trick.
Another great site to keep up to date with is GBAtemp
Side note: I still don't have any luck booting GH5

I don't think any ONE loader can run all Wii titles (WiiVC/WiiWare are all playable though, last I checked, just install the Homebrew channel and there are a bunch of other apps for loading WW and WVC .wads/.dols) -- but I'm pretty sure most, if not all,l games are playable from ISO with a bit of tinkering and with different loaders.

How will wii' gfx look on a 40' hdtv?
Doesn't the low res make them look like crap?

I run them on a 65" Pioneer Plasma, and while its not HD, it looks pretty decent. First thing is to wrap your mind around the fact, that the wii games are not about the graphics and its all abt the gameplay. You are gold!

Im new to all this. I have a Wii, an external hard drive, an ISO image and Ive downloaded the USB Loader GX Installer. Do I need an SD card for this? It seems to have been mentioned.
May the NFOrce be with you always.
