Everything was coasting smoothly for the last month (maybe less) until today. I wake up and can't access any website or connect to msn. Ip addresses are fine, powercycled the modem, called ISP...everything on their end reports fine. In fact, my wife's pc, and XP machine is having no trouble connecting.

On my windows 7 box, I can ping google as far as getting the ip address to resolve. Pinging the ip address also fails to connect. The ISP tech says it sounds like an errant firewall blocking all connections. I'd be inclined to agree. But I've turned off windows firewall and I still cannot connect to anything outside the LAN on that machine. The rest of my network is working fine.

To make matters worse, it seems I'm the only one with this issue because i can't find any info on google. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Hmm, seemed to have fixed it. Went into the adapter properties and set an IP address for the adapter (instead of using DHCP). Put a check in validate settings and clicked ok. The troubleshooter ran and said "I fixed it" so I looked at what it did, and just set the adapter back to DHCP. But after it did that it must've reset the entire network because it started asking me if this was a home network or not. I chose Home and now it's working again.

What is it with windows and DHCP anyway? I try to set it to static ip but then it starts throwing me errors about the gateway being the same as an existing connection and a bunch of bullshit like that.

I get the same problem also every time i shut my router down.
for some reason when it restarts win 7 still has my network listed but also another network with limited or no conectivity which i guess is what it connects to when it wont work.
All i do is disable the lan adapter and then enable it and everything works fine again.

disable receive side scaling in the configuration for your network adapter. Fixed it for me.
