Plenty of RPGs out there that aren't fantasy setting, stop living under a rock.

Well, APB looks cool, but it doesn't look much of an RPG per-se.

While it's an action-RPG, and it has unfortunately been delayed, Alpha Protocol is a modern-day game where you play as a spy. But yep, I'm definetely with you there. We need more varied settings in RPGs.
I'm very tired of the fantasy genre myself and is one of many reasons why I fail to muster much excitement for Dragon Age.

Both are pretty much fantasy. Perhaps not in the same fantasy category, but fantasy nonetheless.

If anything the exact opposite is prevalent, too many RPG's that are not in a medieval setting.. Futuristic or otherwise..
Personally I love the setting of games like Oblivion,Gothic,Risen. There are hundreds of games that suit the FPS crowd, which, by your post you seem to be a lover of..

Well, actually dragons and elves (or other mythical creatures and species) do make it fantasy, but perhaps a different fantasy category.

Both Mass Effect and KOTOR would fall into the science fantasy category.

I don't really mind the setting, but I am getting tired of the general lore. Elves in most RPG's are basically the same, just like dwarves, ogres, gnomes and all the others. The relations between the factions are always the same (dwarves vs. elves etc), the dragons are always ancient and wise. I can go on and on, but I made my point. Someone should use the old trusted setting, but pour some creativity in it.

a gigantic dragon that flies and breaths fire because it's magical is fantasy, a gigantic dragon that flies because it lives on a world with a really dense atmosphere and breaths fire as the result of some explained combustion process taking place in its organs is sci-fi.
victorian steampunk based on the empire's supremacy due to cabbage finishing his analytical engine and a random stroke of luck that ensured that its potential would be properly recognized is sci-fi alternate history, put in mages and you make it fantasy.
nanintes in the diamond age are, for the most part, sci-fi, while most other nanites in fiction tend to be fantasy.
it's all about how much effort you put into explaining how and why things work. the blurry fun starts when you make magic into science, and mages into scientists, and can also deliver the most interesting results setting wise.

You really have to differ between scifi and fantasy. One of the reasons the SyFy channel pisses me off is all the shitty fantasy shit they show. I wouldn't mind if it was decent, but for god's sake there's more shitty fantasy on that channel than there is actual science fiction.
