And im going to ask again.
The possibility of having closed registrations for the next couple months. I'm not asking for it to be permanent but theres 3 large title releases as of now coming soon and we all know what big titles bring.
As of now, I can't even enjoy reading the PC games threads anymore, I do what I can to not argue and not rage and it's to the point of not going in the section anymore unless I post a new game thread.
The arguing, the trolling, the ragings whining is getting out of hand and more and more people are joining in to fuel it, those who get banned just simply make a new account come back in and continue the fire.
I would like to think the mass majority of users here who have stuck around through it all would hopefully have a say in how things are done, so I include a poll.
This thread isn't to have any flaming, raging or whatever crybaby acts some people might bring and I hope those who do get banned. For now, post your thoughts, and with a brain, not nerd durrrr

Closing isn't an option. I took it to the admins (not just Rinze) a while back and they didn't like it (Although Rinze said yes overall - there are others to consider).
I actually think this forum needs MORE users. Yes, with that will come idiots, but we'll filter out the idiots.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, more traffic = more money.
One possible solution to the issue of more idiots around release time is a new moderator to help with the load, on a trial basis.
Lets not forget, more active and sensible users is a good thing, not a bad thing.
This is something Rinze really needs to comment on.

Maybe add a feature that allows you to ignore users with less than x posts? Maybe even make it forum-specific? It's a quick fix and not a solution, but perhaps better than nothing.

I clicked yes, but I don't really care any more, sure, here and there pops up some interesting or funny thread, but overall is... meh...
Plus I need to detox from 'foruming', it's taking a lot of my time...

Well I can click the ignore user button all day but their posts always makes it into someone elses quote, and ignoring one user doesn't help when 30 other people are bitching up a storm as well.

Ok then how about a new reg is restricted to the newbie forum and will remain so until his/hers/its introduction post is approved by x number of active members.

If you notice, most of the bitching and whining (and everything else Spykez said) was done by old[er] members, not by new registers. So it is kind of pointless.
Besides, if it is locked, how will cnZ join and tell us all about white power?

That could work. All new accounts require 5 sensible posts in the newbie section first.
However, it may still stop the majority of new people bothering with the site.
Easiest solution is allow mods to IP ban someone. That way, we can start banning idiots IPs.

But is that method really effective? I mean, dedicated trolls like Boundle can easily bypass this by behaving normally and then trolling after being vouched. It might stop the "where is the download, where are the torrents" posters, but they are rare as it is. So only legit users are left to suffer, when some people don't like the new guy's avatar, or username, so they don't vouch for them. :\

IP Ban is never a good idea. Most ISPs provide dynamic IPs (for example each and every ADSL provider in germany).. And you could easily register and post with random anonymizers.
And I voted against closing registrations... There might be some people who really suck but some people are worth the trouble.

Of course there are always some douchebags that sign up for all the wrong reasons.
But you all gotta admit that some of our regulars do a pretty good job on scaring those away.
And this topic always kinda swings two ways. First it's "close registration, too many douches" and then soon after it's "we got so few people, nobody's registering anymore!"
I say, let 'em come, we'll sort them out and those who think it's worth will stay.
And AAA releases always attract new folks and some might even not be douchebags.
Who knows.

@VGAdeadcafe
I think there is such a system in play already, not allowing people to immediately post.

I fully agree with you, the forum has been lacking lately, and I for one am one of those not posting as much lately cause I go into the PC thread after work when im winding down relaxing to read up on comments and news and all that, and instead, all I see is 3 pages of bitchfesting while I was gone and having to search through everything to find 1 decent post.
More activity might spark but a lot of the normal users aren't posting as much or are finding trying to have a decent discussion redundant cause you get stupid shit like or 15 spoilers with

A mate of mine said that when he signed up here a few weeks/months back, he had to wait 24hrs before he could post anything.

I'm one of those who has been on nforce since pretty much the first year (when the site was black and ... ugly ) and I think it's a bad idea. I mean, I can understand the logic of wanting the shit posts out, but dealing with that by not allowing people to register is like pulling the plug on a coma patient. It will slowly die.
I've been on some other forums for a decade, and in spite of having open registration it leads to "the core group" posting until even they tire of it. I can't imagine what would happen should we close registration on nforce.
What nforce needs is not limiting registrations, it's gaining a new niche. Something new that draws the attention of better users, instead of blocking everyone.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

48hr delay is already implemented, has been for who knows how long... And prompts are pretty useless, if someone wants to spam or troll that won't stop them.
