Hi

Today i got my new parts to build my new pc, I'm asking about how i should connect the psu to the motherboard, The mobo has a 24pin connection and a 12v connection, My psu has a 24pin with a detachable 4pin and also a 12v, How should i connect this?, Do i plug the 24pin in and the 12v or do i detach the 4pin so it's 20pin and plug that in with the 12v?

What could possibly make you think that the second option would work?

You havea 24 pin connection and a 24 pin plug.. but you want to make it a 20 pin plug for a 24pin connection?

Plug it in like you are supposed to.. 24 pin in 24pin 12v in 12v...

The detachable bit is meant for older mobo/cpu combinations that don't need the extra power. Just keep the 24-pin connector as it is and stuff it in. You wouldn't be able to take the extra 4 off to put into the 12v plug anyway without forcing it.

Not hard to figure out really mate, most of the hardware only fits one way nowadays so that complete idiots could still do it right if they realise you're not supposed to apply force to delicate stuff

I have the best solution: Read the manual! Very Happy

i did that once and my computer literally burst aflame
a few curse words and blowing air and fuse exchange later i actually checked the manual and learned that the connector on my soundcard that looked like an ide-extension, as soundcards of the era often had, was actually a card extension interface for some midi shit
luckily all i lost was an ide cable and a few braincells to toxic smoke inhalation
