Hey everybody, i have a question about dvd+r 8x media. Can i use 8x media with a 4x writer? I have a NEC-1100A writer wich is only capable of 4x writing, and 4x media from verbatim is hard to find. So i was wondering if i could use 8x media. I do remember that you could not use 4x media on 2,4x writers back then, these writers were destroyed by doing that. And yes i looked up the nec webpage, but they give no info. Latest firmware is installed.

It's not that obvious since you could not use 4x media on 2,4x writers. Early 4x media had a warning sign on them that these media will destroy your writer. Anybody tried it yet?

shouldnt be a problem. Most media i know and have seen were tagged with "up to 8x" or "8x max". I can remember the initial probs with the new media but havent heard of any problems anymore for quite some time
