Well, compatablity with AV seems to be a total disappointment with Windows 7, what was the point in the RTM when it seems noone has took advantage of it Rolling Eyes

I've ruled these AV's out for not working :

NOD 32 V2 (Won't update - yet updates fine on XP)
Synmatic AV Corp (Complains about x64)
Kaspersky (Blacklisted keys, hard to keep updated)
Sandboxie (Not really a AV but its good for protection stuff, won't run either x64 problem)

I'm looking into NOD version 4 but it seems that has the same problems as Kaspersky?

What do I do Sad

Microsoft Security Essentials, no doubt. Fast and has great detection engine. Smile

NOD32 4 (and to a degree 3) are complete system hogs, very bloated.

+1
it's fast, free and works well.

while avira is free too, you do get ad popups from it once in a while which can be pretty annoying.

For me BitDefender 2010 hasn't slowed my comp, like 2009 version did, but I'll try that MSE, everybody's boasting it, so it must be good Smile

I didn't say I used AVG..but the OP was asking for antivirus programs that are Win 7 compatible. Only reason I know is because I put win7 on a friend's computer and they wanted AVG on there. I use MS security myself..

And of course, they won't update the old versions, because heh, nobody will bother with their recent crap. Razz

I know that, but my question was if it's worth using it over some other non-microsoft firewall.

I use this :
http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/index.html
Better interface/configuring, uses the windows 7 firewall itself. It's called Windows 7 Firewall Control Very Happy

It was discussed in another thread.

@VGA
This program makes me lol now just as much as it did back then. So instead of opening the group policy editor, they charge people cash for showing the same options under a different window. Laughing

@Ronhrin
Vista and 7 firewall is pretty much excellent, and is also much faster than other third party ones because it is integrated in Windows. Smile

... Nearly all routers have firewalls.
The only reason you would need a software firewall is if you used dial up/pub wifi/mobile inet.. or some sort of other direct connection to the internet :-/
