First switch to english by alt+shift. Now you may use the tilde.
Second what do you mean your A.I. disabled??? The enemies don't shoot?

edit: i saw another guy with your problem: http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5400&start=240

The answer is: type in console ai_disabled 0

same problem here.. i cant open the console. and someone typed this:
"
If you get the node out of sync error between loading maps and your save games dont work (AI gets disabled due to missing node graph) DON'T USE THE EMPORIO LAUNCHER.EXE! Just create a shortcut to your hl2.exe and add -steam after the command line. This way you wont get the node error and ai disabled error! I have tested this and it works."

i can create the shortcut..but where do i put the -steam

Uhm, nope!
Or,, where is the tilde on your keyboard. Is it far up to the left, or the key next to the enter-key? Tried both, but nothing.
Do I press alt+shift AND tilde? or alt+shift. THEN tilde..tried both there to, so I don't get it.

it's without the "d" in disabled. For me the ai_disabled doesn't work.

ok, the only answer i see is..

when u start with the launcher.exe, it opens with the console.

just leave that open and resume the game.

if u get ai disables, just press esc, the console is still open and u can type in it.

then just resume the game again

Yeah, I actually noticed that after a while Smile Thanx man. But it's very anoying not to be able to use the tilde. And tha ai that keeps disabling itself..Oh darn..freakin' great game anyway. Actually thinking of bying this...Last game I bought was Last Ninja 2 on the C64 Smile Oh, those were the times.

Alternatively, you could go into your config.cfg file, and on a new line add something like

bind p ai_disable 0

Then save the file, flag it as write-protected (nasty tendency to overwrite config files), and as soon as the game starts kicking out the ai, press p to get it back.

also it has been mentioned to create a shortcut to hl2.exe and add a -steam command

but how do u do that? i made a windows shortcut,-but where to put the -steam so it runs.

also did a bat file, the game started, bu ai disabled was still there

start "" "C:\half life 2\hl2.exe" -steam

I had the same problem earlier today, but i use a different version.
My version is named "Half-Life_2.WORKING-AXPi",(DLed via BT),and it comes as a 1.5GB RAR archive with a complete and already registered install in it.
(No giant .ISO,it took just 10 or 12 hours to complete.)
Unpacked size is then 3,20GB with the .exe included, but no "launcher" or such, only the .exe.
Clicking the .exe doesnt work, though, but creating a shortcut like:
(The following is an EXACT example,NO ""s,(quotes),of any kind belong in there.)
Quote:

C:\Programs\Half Life2\hl2.exe -steam -console

did the trick.
(Needless to say that the parameters/paths have to be adjusted to fit your actual directories,of course. The important bit is the -Steam -Console addition.)

In simple words: Rightclick the .exe and hold down the button, then drag it over to the desktop and select "Create Shortcut" from the opening dropdown-menu.
Now rightclick the just created shortcut, and select "Properties".
Then simply add -Steam -Console after .exe in the titleline of your shortcut and thats it.
(But insert one space after .exe !)
Again. NO QUOTES belong into that shortcut-path!

I dont know if this works for other releases as well, but its always worth a try.
In any case it runs perfectly with the AXPi release, and wont ask for any online-activities nor for any disk in any drive.
It tries to connect on first startup, though, but when you block it in your firewall you wont be bothered again.
(Many games do this, its just the "usual" try to look for an update or such,it has nothing to do with registering or such.)

Dunno if its allowed to post torrents here,so in case it isnt feel free to just remove it.
Torrent for "my",(working),release:
Half-Life_2.WORKING-AXPi.torrent

I'm getting a slightly differernt AI problem. At the beginning of the game where you meet the chick, you both go in the elevator and onwards. I got just beyond that with the EMP version before I had AI errors and snagged that AXPi release. Tried that new "Fix all versions" patch as well. Anyways, now when I meet the girl, she stands by the elevator and, well, stands. Can't progress. Any ideas?

I heard of one guy saying that changing the AA and AF settings to certain different levels had helped to overcome this kind of problem, where you get stuck somewhere.
Cant comment on this any further,...havent checked that myself.

But i guess whenever the characters are freezing up,youre best off with simply entering AI_disable 0 in the console.
That will turn the AI back on and the game will proceed normally.

You can even bind a key on your keyboard to execute that string whenever you need it.
In the cfg folder is a file called config.cfg
(Do not confuse with the defaultconfig.cfg next to it!)
To bind a key to a function in config.cfg, you simply open it with notepad, and type exactly:
---------
(EXAMPLE) bind "DesiredKey" "DesiredFunction"
---------
That means in case you choose space to execute the string, youd want to type:
---------
bind "Space" "AI_disable 0" (You can copy and paste this,if you want.)
---------
That means,of course, that you cant use the space key for something else in the game anymore, but you can of course choose a different key than space as well.
But make sure you delete the entry for a key which already exists in the config.cfg, when you modify it!
Space for example is already in use,so youd have to delete the original bind for space in the config.cfg before you close notepad and save your new bind!
And of course you must NOT bind any other function in the game options to the key you selected to execute AI_disable 0 anymore,or it will be overwritten by your new selected command!

However,...
Using it will work in the middle of the game,(not in pause or console mode),just like every other game-button,so whenever AI_Disabled appears on the screen, just press the button you selected to execute AI_disable 0 and there you go.
Of course it works the other way around as well, which means that you can intentionally freeze up the AI in the middle of the game that way too.
But i woulndnt recommend to ever do this, because it might let you pass where you are not supposed to pass,(yet),which would completely destroy the walk of the game!!!
Youve been warned!

Got it to work, I just saved when the woman was doing nothing at the elevator, quit and then restarted and loaded the savegame, it then worked.

I also read on another forum that typing the word restart in the console should work, but I have not tried this solution.....

There is a patch out now for this issue.
But you can patch it yourself as well by simply open your autoexec.cfg,(in the cfg folder),with notepad, and adding:
--------
ai_norebuildgraph "1"
ai_disable "0"
(You can copy and paste both commands,if you want.)
--------
In case no autoexec.cfg is there for whatever reason, just create one with notepad.
(Rightclick Desktop -> New -> TextDocument -> Open it -> Insert both commands -> Name document as autoexec.cfg -> Save -> move it to cfg folder.)
This will rid you from the AI problem, and from the "NodegraphOutOfDate" problem as well,...
