Old bump but this is the appropriate thread so.

We understand when characters don't necessarily return in fighting game sequels. The roster does have to stay fluid, after all. However, here's a rather surprising feature being cut for the upcoming Smash Bros game for Wii U and 3DS: cutscenes.
Game director Masahiro Sakurai told Japanese magazine Famitsu that the upcoming game will not include a story mode or cutscenes. And the reason is quite surprising.
"Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet," Sakurai wrote to the magazine (transcribed by Kotaku). "You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I've decided against having them."
Nintendo really has a grudge against this "YouTube" thing that all the kids are doing nowadays. Especially when it comes to Smash Bros, it seems.
The CG movie team at Nintendo isn't going to be completely unused, however. Instead of having a story mode, Sakurai promises to have intro video sequences for every character. At E3, Nintendo introduced the Wii Fit Trainer with a movie--and because they released it to the internet, it's totally okay.
Still, for fans of the franchise, the news must come as a step backwards. Subspace Emissary for Wii was special not only for bringing together so many different franchises in one narrative--but for being penned by Final Fantasy 7's Kazushige Nojima.

Strange decision for the WiiU (And 3DS) port of this game, though it'll have other enhancements instead.
(Isn't the cutscenes being uploaded for every game people show in that way, from rips of only the cinematic sequences to full walk-through videos.)
EDIT: Actually now that I've read a bit more this seems like it's a full new game and not just a port, but that just makes the above decision from Nintendo even weirder.

Nitendo seems to have some some sort of ''only'' games attidue
no movies or official streaming support on WIIU. and then they wonder why people prefer the other consoles... Im using my ps3 for movies as well not just gaming...

They did the same thing with the GC and the Wii too. GC had no DVD support unless you bought the Panasonic Q and then the Wii had no DVD support until you hacked it. They really do just concentrate primarily on games, with some added side-function like a web browser for the Wii.

That company's going to be a publisher only by the end of the next generation.

Dat crystal ball.
I doubt it, as said previously, the Wii got them a lot of money.
The Wii U is beginning to sell now with pIkmin 3 in Europe. And it will be even more by the end of the year when Mario 3D, Zelda WW HD and Donkey Kong are released.
And they have 2014 covered with X, Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart.
Not only that but the 3ds is selling like hot cakes now.
Now do you really think Nintendo is pulling another Sega? Come on...

games are the main reason for consoles sales, there is not doubt about it, but,it's still good attraction for people. 360 and PS3 known to offer Movies/Series market, and pretty success on that
3DS is doing well, still not the best 3rd support, better then Vita/WIIU,but not as good as NDS did, smartphone are the attraction these days, and btw it has Movies support, but I won't count on it the the main reason to it's recovery.

To be honest here, I'm a little biased because I got my Wii U for 70€, so obviously I didn't think twice when getting it
But I'm happy with it, I guess anyone would be happy though for that price
