|
 |
Just wondering is there any negative points about buying a banned xbox 360 except from not being able to go online?
Only wondering as I can get one cheap (£50) complete with 20gb hard drive, cables, psu, modded with latest firmware and a few games.
I already have an Elite that I use online. Thinking of using it downstairs to stream movies from the pc.
Thanks

Aside from Live access, there's only one downside --- making sure it's NOT a recently banned machine. If it's recently banned, then that means you've lost HDD and Media Center access. Not a nice proposition :\

No, sorry. Once the machine is banned, any HDD you put on there is corrupted. You can still save/load in games but you can't have DLC, you can't install games, you can't use Media Center Extender (which pretty much makes MC itself useless as you can't copy movies/music to your HDD*)
*music can be ripped to HDD, but only from CD.

Normally I'd agree too (I mean, shit... if you can put up with the noise from the DVD tray, and lack of DLC/XBLA titles, then £50 is a steal!) -- but they even disable the Media Center Extender, which pretty much locks out the media functionality.
Besides... I like my DLC/XBLA and HDD installs.

Nah, you just have to have been connected once in order to download the XVID/DIVX codec. Once you've got that, movies work just fine on or off Live. |
Ahh okies , wasnt sure as mine is allways connected when watching streamed stuff

You know what you could do, mate? Test it ^_^ Even without media extender, you can still load AVIs off a thumb-stick or even streaming over the network with something like TVersity. If you know the guy selling the machine, ask him to let you test it.
As for the HDD corruption, it basically just applies to XBLA/DLC/Installs. It still functions as a save device and ......... ohhhhh.... wait, just thought of something. The XVID/DIVX codec is DRM locked, so that means it too will be corrupted >_<

I was wanting it for both, Mainly media, I already have an Elite for gaming.
Only other thing is how much life it will have left before it gets a RROD as its a few years old now (3 or 4 I would say).
