Soo, today i ordered a new monitor, 24" Full HD BenQ screen (and I can't wait to try it out! Very Happy) and I have this small problem.

As of now, my 2 DVI ports are used by my current monitor and my HD projector. The projector uses a DVI to HDMI cable.

Now, I'm going to want to use both my monitors obviously, since the 21" LCD im using now is a perfectly good monitor. But that means I have to unplug the projector. The projector is used 90% of the time for my 360's and PS3, but every time I watch a movie, i just use it as a second monitor and play the movie with my PC.

So i was thinking - DVI switch - anyone has one, has any tips, anything specific to look for etc? I saw some cheap ones when I did a quick price comparison on a Swedish site, but how worth it are the more expensive ones? I was thinking of plugging DVI port one to my new monitor, since i'll always use it, then DVI port two to the switch, so i can run either the second, old monitor or the projector when i wanna watch a movie.

Now that became a short story long, but anyway, help? Laughing

Edit: I mean swtich, not splitter ffs Razz

I could be wrong, but given this is a digital connection it's either 1 or 0, meaning it works perfectly or it doesn't work at all. Meaning that a cheap one will do the job just as good as an expensive one.

I tried to look for some reviews, but it seems like many are doing the opposite of what you want (ie many inputs to single display rather than one input to many displays)...

Ah, you're goddamn right on that first part, even I know that Laughing I blame the meager 4 hours sleep I got the night before Razz

Hm, yeah, now that you mention it, that seem to be the most common :/

Edit: Goddamnit, how about I stop and thnk for a second? The 2xInput and 1xOutput ones are usually used to hook up two sources to one screen, but you can easily do the reverse of course, and do 1 input and 2 output, as im gonna do Razz

hopefully Smile

there do seem to be ones to do the reverse...
http://www.hdtvsupply.com/1x4-dvi-splitter.html

this website even says "The 1x4 DVI Monitor Switcher works in reverse from our other switchers: it connects one high definition digital video source to four digital video displays one at a time."
http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=3033

so maybe all won't work in reverse. actually if you google reverse dvi switch you find some better results..

^^ someone in that thread claims to have just used a regular dvi switch and plugged inputs into outputs and outputs into inputs...

edit, maybe what you want is actually a DVI splitter? seems it would be a cheaper solution.

send the signal to both and then just turn it on when you want to see a picture.
