It's pathetic, they named Demon's Souls as the best RPG of 2009 - which is horseshit of the highest measure. DA-O would, and should, have won.

Idd! Demon Souls is hack'n-slash. Not a RPG!
But how the hell can they nominate COD6 for best single-player campaign and not DA:O?
The story in COD6 was more or less non-existant, atelast if u compare it to DA:O

Arguable - Demon's Souls pushed boundaries by making a game very difficult and the online element was probably one of the coolest I've ever seen in a game. Conceptually and follow through was fantastic.
Dragon Age reminded me a lot of WoW in the sense they didn't re-invent anything, they just polished and polished and polished.
Have to say it's not horseshit. That being said, I thought DAO was a better game. |

I'll admit the online part sounds good (except for the concept of griefers, people who shadow into your game with the sole purpose of killing you to make your life hell) but the ability to add notes out of pre-chosen message phrases doesn't exactly make it the "best RPG ever!!"

That's where I have to differ again, I'm afraid. Comparing DA to WoW is just comparing Street Fighter to Mortal Kombat. Same genre but NOTHING similar at all.

At least we agree on something. IMO; Dragon Age is GOTY - not some consolised crap whose major selling point is the ludicrously unfair difficulty level, and not the actual gameplay and story. Of course that's not to say Demon's Souls is a bad game, far from it, but GOTY? Not really.

The whole GT and SA teams are full of console fanboys. No surprise for me then.
MW2 will become GOTY on GT, that's for sure ^^
It's a shame that GT is the only good page for trailers though.

To a lot of people, it was GOTY. Where you and I agree is that Demons Souls was not game of the year. I personally don't think DAO was GOTY either. Anyway, you missed my entire point about WoW and DAO. Go re-read it. In no way am I saying they are similar games, but instead, suggesting that in their respective genres, neither did anything groundbreaking, but both essentially encompassed every good aspect of the genre, and meshed them all together in such a way that felt fresh consistently. |

Well, I think that Gametrailers.com is a site that is completely unreliable when it comes to giving out awards and making unbiased reviews. After visiting that site for a couple of years it occurs to me that it's simply one big advertising site for the Industry and it's owned by MTV and I'll bet that the reason for the site's overall slick look is because the big game companies are donating a lot of dollars to the site and kickbacks to the so called journalists.
Speaking of their journalists, I'll bet that none of them is an educated journalist because if some of them are, they have sold their credibility to Satan a long time ago.
Btw. Have any of you noticed how they often just talk about how well the games and consoles have sold? And often they say "Well that game sold like a Mofo so it's automatically the game of the year! That's like saying "You know that new Twilight movie? It sold a shitload of dough so naturally it deserves an Oscar for movie of the year!
So Imho there isn't much Bonus in the weekly Bonus round at GT, it's just a couple of dudes measuring Creativity in $

Heh, I really liked Dragon Age but after you beat it 2-3 times and exhaust all the character interaction and story options there is nothing left - there isn't much gameplay variety in it. Demon's Souls on the other hand is the exact opposite - the storyline component nothing special but gameplay is so addictive ;o.

Well no, not really. Demon's Souls is definitely an RPG (of the hack'n'slash variety) so it's not that I took issue with. I just don't believe DS is "RPG of the Year" compared to other greats like DAO.

And I say, if DS is an RPG, then X-Men Origins Wolverine, MW2, Prototype and The Force Unleashed have to be RPGs too. But that's ridiculous. They've got some RPG features, yes, but they aren't RPGs.

Well technically, DS is the definition of a dungeon crawling RPG. It's not a story based one like most epics, but it's still a role-playing game.

I think it's mostly because dragon age didn't bring anything new to the table. it's like baldur's gate meets mass effect with nothing that really sets it apart gameplay wise.
demon's souls on the other hand is a pretty unique experience.
I can't really think of anything that is quite like it, while when talking about dragon age you can immediately say that it's like baldur's gate, icewind dale, neverwinter nights or knights of the old republic. not that there's anything wrong with that, but I guess that is just what makes DS win the battle.
