|
 |
Quote: | While it's only been a few short months since Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 hit store shelves and shattered countless sales records, rumors of the studio's next project and the inevitable Modern Warfare 3 are already making the rounds.
Sales sensation Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Citing "industry sources," Destructoid claims that Infinity Ward's next will be a massively mulitplayer online game, with the studio reportedly hiring Sony Online Entertainment (EverQuest, Star Wars Galaxies) veterans and possibly getting help from fellow Activision Blizzard studio Blizzard (World of Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft).
Whether this turns out to be the oft-mentioned Call of Duty MMO or not, franchise owner Activision is still likely to continue releasing annual entries in the popular series.
That leads into the second rumor going around, which sees VG247 stating that Modern Warfare 3 is to be developed by another Activision-owned studio. One source pointed to Prototype developer Radical as handling the unannounced-but-inevitable shooter sequel, while another put it in the hands of Sledgehammer Games--a newly formed studio from Dead Space veterans Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey that is confirmed to be "creating a new game based on one of Activision's existing franchises."
This fits with earlier word from The Los Angeles Times, which claimed that a third developer was joining Infinity Ward and Treyarch on the blockbluster series, as well as reaffirmed that a Call of Duty MMO was under consideration.
Though Infinity Ward created the Call of Duty series and handled its first two entries, Activision switched over to a "leapfrog" development strategy with Call of Duty 3, which was crafted by Treyarch. Since then, the annual Call of Duty releases have alternated between Infinity Ward and Treyarch, with indications that Treyarch is readying a Vietnam War era entry, codenamed Call of Duty 7, for release towards the end of 2010. |
While it's a rumor it makes sense I guess, using Koticks logic. What makes the most money? WOW and MW2, then you combine them.
Come to think of it though, console MMO's are so unsuccessful compared to PC ones, so either they would try and make this work really well on consoles or they are working on a decent PC game. Then again this is IW.

I bet it will run on IWnet, hosted by players, and monthly fee will be 30USD=EUR/month.

Esxcept in Oz, where they'll still charge US dollars so we have to pay conversion fee's, but it'll be US$50.

Fuck it, we won't have to do anything, period. We can watch our characters level up 80 times over 7 weeks by themselves. The pretty colors and explosionz should hold our attention throughout.

If they made the mmo like the life of a special forces soldier(I don't mean all the civilian bullshit) but sort of like a gun for hire and there were tons of different missions you could go on with your friends. But still..I hope they don't "thiZ guy has massive health cuz he's a boss" D: but imagine spotter/sniper missions with your friends or taking over tons of weird shit
8 out of 10 dentists prefer zipfero to competing brands(fraich3 and Mutantius)!

They will fail because most of the type of people that buy their games are kids that cannot afford some monthly fee for an mmo.
Not to mention pc gamers have a long memory and the types that are willing to pay a monthly sub for a game did not buy mw2 over the servers fiasco.

I can see this being just a normal FPS with a subscription slapped onto it. Leveling being exactly like it is in CoD right now etc.

When will you PC gamers ever be satisfied?! We've caved in and will in fact get rid of any player hosted matches, moving everything into dedicated servers which of course cost a lot to maintain so apart from the 60, no 75! (because of the recession and stuff we have to eat) dollars you pay for buying the game you must also pay 30 dollars monthly because this is the best shit ever!
So why are you whining now?! Why can't you ever be HAAAPPEEEEEE?! Fucking spoiled PC Gamers.
