|
 |
Quote: |
It was only yesterday that 3D Realms celebrated Wolfenstein's 17th birthday, but today is an entirely different story. According to various sources online, one of the pillars of gaming has shut down. Once called Apogee, 3DRealms has been responsible for some of the most classic of games, and pioneer of the FPS genre in general. While there is no confirmation yet, former 3D Realms employee Charlie Wiederhold, currently at Infinity Ward working on Modern Warfare 2, says the rumor is 100% true and confirmed.

Do not worry Baldrick, for I've a cunning plan - let's make an internet petition to get the development going again.

Indeed, Rest In Pieces.
The Duke doesn't have the admiration and renown today that he had then, it's all Gordon Freeman now.
Superstitious people would claim that it's all due to the fact that Duke Nukem: Forever has been in development for 13 years.
EDIT: what was I thinking of?

Besides, they knew that if they were to ever release something, it would have to be the best thing ever.

There was an update to that story:
Quote: | UPDATE: Deep Silver issued a statement saying that Apogee is not affected by the situation at 3D Realms, and that development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned. |
Hail to the king, baby?

Duke Nukem Trilogy ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Nukem_Trilogy ) isn't Duke Nukem Forever.

yeah at least we're done with this bullcrap, hopefully they'll sell the license to a more talented team ( I vote starbreeze) and we'll finally see some real progress.

So I guess the Duke Nukem IP and the current game assets will stay with 2K Games? They could hire some dev studio to finish it still. Afaik that's what they did with Prey after it was in vaporware limbo for almost as long as DNF.
