So my computer turns itself off every now and then and it's driving me nuts. I've tried tons of things to find the problem, but i just cant find it.
Anyone know of any software that checks your hardware for problems? Ive tried lots of programs so far - but I cant seem to find one that just let you try every component to see which part that might be broken.

shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

It shuts off without any BSOD or warning?

Look at your PSU first. Hard to test it, but if you got a replacement unit at hand, give that a go. Any idea what brand it is?

Most other hardware will cause a BSOD or a reboot, not a complete shutdown. Only other piece which could trigger a shutdown (in my experience at least) would be the CPU, and that you can test by simply running prime95 whilst monitoring your temperature. If it gets too hot, it'll shut down.

Computer turning off is most often attributed to PSU issues.

But to make sure it's not Windows doing some stuff, after the PC turns off, boot it up and go to the system event log for critical errors (Start -> Run -> compmgmt.msc -> Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> System). Critical errors are marked as "Error" and have a red icon. Smile

If there are no errors, my best guess would be the PSU. Try using SpeedFan to check the various voltages to see if your PSU isn't faulty. Smile

Pay special attention to your core voltage; faulty PSU's often have massive fluctuations in the VCore. Fluctuations of up to 0.25ish are quite normal for most CPU's (differs a bit per CPU obviously), but bigger than that is a clear sign of a faulty PSU Smile

Also, make sure to run at full load. Sometimes CPUs undervoltage themselves (or Windows does it for them) to lower heat and power consumption at idle. Smile

The BIOS does, more specifically, but yeah, Leo has a point there Smile

Just watch the voltage whilst running prime95 or orthos or something Smile
