I know there is a sticky says "No more HL2 threads" but this is the release everyone is waiting for (assuming).

Feel free to delete this thread if you think we don't need it.

By the way Vengeance surprised me with this release.

So what I don't get is how come other releases get nuked for being "homemade installers", yet this one does not? It should be a nuke based on their own stupid "scene rules".

If I understood the nfo properly, this doesn't even install like the retail and just copies the compressed files over and it plays the game from out of those. Retail extracts those files, so even if they didn't say they made the custom installer, it's obvious that it doesnt run as retail.

Just buy the game, its worth the money.

technically its not a homemade install

you still install with the real installer, but then you technically do a 2nd install (which is defined as a PATCH which is NOT a break of scene rules) on the game

Beg to differ, I bought the game and it isn't worth the money. Looks pretty and inventive I grant you but way too linear and I hate that steam shit.

If I understand the nfo properly this release runs better than the retail - which wouldn't be too difficult.

Hope it doesn't get nuked. I already ordered my copy from play.com and its nice to see a no cd crack for it.

(Actually, do you have to mount or burn the cds to play the game. Any ideas? ) Smile

Seems like a good release but why did they disable internet play ? or do they just mean it's not possible to play without a valid kay ?

I like my games if it's key verification, that when I gte a legit key afterwards (for example a friend who doesn't play it online anymore) that I can install the iso version with a legit key and voila , fully enabled ....

So I hpe they didn't actually tinker with that part of the game itself, if they did it should be nuked ... the game should play and behave as the retail, of course it should give you a error or whatever if you are so smart to try to go online with a non-legit key but well you get the point Smile

This should be nuked for homemade installer... WTF?? Confused

If having to unplug your ide drives to play a sf3 clone rls doesn't warrant a nuke, making a custom installer that emulates steam sure as hell shouldn't either.

Scene rulez must evolve with the current means of copyright protection. Exclamation

I assume you are calling me the newb. This newb bought the game on Steam, have had ZERO problems, occasional sound skipping, but very little (1 sec here and there) and it really didn't affect my gameplay at all. And it is one of the best games ever made...period.

If you dont think it's worth it to buy the game then you obviously have no interest in CounterStrike, DoD: Source, HL: Source or any of the hundreds of mods that are being worked on by people, right?

Having to unplug drives is for Clone releases. Different scene from cracking the software...this would be why the releases aren't nuked as dupes.

And my comment was half sarcastic, noted by the "stupid scene rules". Because there have been perfectly good releases nuked because the group used a different method of cracking a game nobody else could crack.

It installs same as retail. It extracts the .gcf's which get decrypted through steam.

nfo states that it doesnt extract the gcf files (like it's supposed to), but plays right out of them. This is why they made the comment about not having to extract 30,000 files.

thats kinda a funny defense..these mods you mention used to be freely available to download without buying anything(besides the game which was i believe 39.99 when it came out). so im not sure how buying the game supports people making mods for free? i know it sure supports more companies adopting this type of copy protection, tho. also best game ever made? thats an opinion, buddy. i think the story is shit and i got bored of it after the 100th or so headcrab encounter. anyways dont preach to ppl, either they will buy it or they wont, end of story.
