They have that scripted crap then. I used to get really annoyed when phoning AOL with a problem and they would tell me to do something even a 10yo would have checked.

I'm a Virgin Media customer, so I think I will pass on this. lol

Marc has entered.
Marc: Good Evening. You’re through to Marc, How can I help you?
You: this for all sorts of windows problems or just basic things?
Marc: we're supporting computers and digital stuff..
Marc: Can you tell me more about your problem?
You: okay, on my laptop im getting a "windows\systems32\config\system" error come up, i dont want to reinstall as programs i have installed i dont have discs for anymore
You: it wont even go into safemode either
You: i took a look into that dir by looking on the hdd externaly and system file is in there
Marc: I'd like to take a few minutes to understand the nature of your problem and recommend the paid service that's best suited to solving your issue.
Marc: When did theproblem start?
You: today
Marc: Is there any recent software/hardware changes that you made?
You: nothing at all, i was just browsing the internet
Marc: Base on the error message, it means that some file on the operating system hhas been corrupted and we can only fix it using the Operating Sytem disc that came with your laptop.
You: i didnt get one supplied
Marc: You can call the manufacturer of your computer and ask for the CD's.
Marc: Is the computer still under warranty?
You: it isnt no
Marc: OK, since you did not get it when you first got the system, I'm sure they can supply it to you.
You: okay
Marc: Once you have those CD's you can contact us and we'll help you recovering the computer.
You: what about the data?
You: If I do use a recovery disc it will most likely format the hdd
Marc: The save data on your computer will not be deleted, we need the CD to copy the missing file in order for the computer to boot up normally.
You: cant i do that just by sticking the hdd onto my main computer?
You: then copying the system file from there?
Marc: No, we really need the original Operating System CD to do that.
Marc: Anything else at the moment?
You: what if i copy the 'system' file from windows\repair folder into windows\system32\config\ will that work? Wink
Marc: That will not work, you need to get it from the original Operating System disc.
You: it does as i just tried it and its booted
Marc: Thats good, I just thought that its not only system file is missing, there might be some file missing associated with that, that's why I recommend you to have the OS cd, since its working now, anything else?
You: I doubt it otherwise it wouldnt boot at all but no thank you
