My terminal services on another computer in the network has totally locked up. I don't wanna "hard reset" it by pressing the putton because of some important processes running, so I would like to know if there is anyway to reach the command shell or the task manager. Unfortunately It's neither Linux or a SSH daemon running on the comp.

The computer runs Windows XP pro corp SP2.

If the process is running in a terminal session you can kill it using Terminal Services Manager, if it's not installed on your pc (because you use xp pro and not server) look up adminpak.msi in google and download from microsoft site.

If process is not inside a terminal session try pslist and pskill in the pstools package from sysinternals.

Yup I tried many things with the Windows 2003 admin pack without any luck. I will try the sysinternals application soon.

If you use Dameware NT Utils you can add/remove/stop/start any service remotely. It will also let you get up a remote command shell on the box in question.

The software's quite expensive but you can get the 30 day trial which should do for your immediate needs here:
