Yes. Not sure about prices in the UK atm, but you should be able to get something like an i5-750 + 5850 and all the other stuff around it for that price Smile

Edit:
600.00 GBP = 682.940 EUR according to Xe.com's convertor

Quick check on a Dutch website that has data for a ton of shops, shows me that you should be able to get the above easily.

Which parts do you actually want/need? Mainly looking at stuff that's easily reusable like HDD's, a case, etcetera Smile

GPU-wise ATI is on top at the moment, although you might want to wait a few months until we know how good or bad NVIDIA's upcoming Fermi is.

CPU-wise it hasn't changed much: Intel still wins all-round, AMD is still the cheaper of the two. Personally I'd still go for Intel though, but that's just me, there's loads of gamers very happy with their AMDs Smile

Well, if you could open your mac without voiding your warranty and add a proper video card to it and then use that crap Boot Camp to use Windows 7, that would be best choice. Smile
Instead you want to keep my work rig and gaming rig separate. Wink

680 euro? Well my combination was around 480€ and was pretty good Smile

Athlon II X4 with 4x2,8Ghz (easily overclockable to 3,2Ghz with the supplied fan)
4GB RAM (DDRIII 1333)
HD4870 or 5770 with 1GB
640GB HD (7200rpm 16MB cache)
good mainboard (with hd 4200 + 128mb gfx ram for hybrid crossfire)
case and 530w be quiet power supply Smile

You could take an I5 750 and an intel mobo and would be just under 600 € I guess Smile

Yeah just that if there aren't any recent PC exclusives you're interested in, might as well wait until SC2 gets released and buy the rig then?

You can probably build the system yourself for much lower price.

But it will only take about an hour to build yourself and you choose exactly what parts you want meaning there will be no compromises.

You could always get someone else to build it if you don't feel confident enough.

Building it yourself will be substantially cheaper.

And sure an iMac has decent specs. Also costs more than twice the hardware itself costs Razz

Do you need a complete system from scratch? If so, Paintface's list is a fair start, altho he made a mistake on the PSU. That particular model isn't one of the best, so I'd suggest going for a lower wattage but a higher quality PSU Wink

Have you already got a case suitable to build it all into? i.e. enough room to move around in, some airflow to keep stuff cool, etcetera Smile

This could prolly use a bit more thought but should give you a idea of what can be had with a budget of £600 as i just quickly threw it together as www.scan.co.uk
You could go the phenom ii x3/x4 and HD5770 route..

It doesn't matter, and Macs have at least good CPUs in them. The GPUs are awful, and so is the design itself, but at least the CPUs are good. Also, he has already paid for that hardware, no matter how high the price, so no point throwing more cash for similar hardware (another motherboard, another CPU, RAM, etc). He can just pop a card in (and possibly a PSU) and have a gaming system for less.
Seeing as he probably doesn't know how to build it ("I dont mind paying for the built already convenience", et al), there isn't much more for me to say. Laughing

Well yes its been a long time since I built a rig. Im a little nervous to do it with a brand new system and one im not used to

Thanks for all the advice though. Its food for thought. I have to wait a week before I can order as moved my bank account so theres a waiting period.. plenty of time to plan what Im gonna do. At the moment though, not daring to build it is my main issue. Id rather pay more for it ready built.

If you need help with building, why not ask? Sure it is better than churning cash on something that is so easy. The "hardest" thing is connecting the case wires to the motherboard, and all this is always covered in the motherboard manual. Smile

Just need some patience and 1 hour of free time. Smile
