Bandai Namco has dropped a teaser trailer for an unnamed "new project" which flaunts the tagline: 'Prepare to Dine'.
As I'm sure most of you are aware, the Bandai Namco-published Dark Souls series' axiom is Prepare to Die, and the following animated short does echo the gothic architecture and towering adversaries of Hidetaka Miyazaki's twisted games. That said, Miyazaki has said the Souls series is finished for now and there is no mention of developer From Software here. It's most likely the use of this slogan is purposefully tongue-in-cheek, however what does could it mean?
"Enjoy this original animation inspired by a new title in development by Bandai Namco Entertainment," reads a statement on the Bandai Namco website, "due to be announced on April 20th, 2017.
There's no mention of platforms either—for whatever this mystery project may be—however here's the ultra-stylish animated teaser nevertheless:
The game is set in a near future where everything has gone to ruin. Players are Revenants, vampires that possess supernatural abilities, that will take on the truth of the world while working together with allies.
In order to survive, Revenants live in an isolated society called “Vein.” The Revenant is a being that has transcended humanity, but as a result has lost most of their memories. A Revenant who is short on blood will turn into a monster called a “Lost.”
One of the main features of Code Vein is the “Buddy” system. When exploring dungeons, you can bring a single partner along.
Revenants mainly use close-range weapons such as great swords and one-handed swords. Other weapons such as spears and hammers also exist.
Bandai Namco reveals new game in Famitsu: Code Vein, out 2018 (no platform yet). Dark Souls-like Action RPG made by God Eater's team.
Bandai Namco's Code Vain take place in ruined near-future. Player is a Revenant that has superpower, has to coop with friends to seek truth.
In Code Vain, Revenants have superpower in exchange for most of their memory. Losing blood cause them to turn into ghosts called Lost.
In Code Vain, Revenants have equipment: Blood Veil which use Lost blood. Normally it acts as clothing/armor but will change form when used.
Development is 35% complete. A trailer will be released very soon too.
Okish Monster Hunter clones with a Anime story tagged on, didn't really like them after playing a bit, reviews where not that great either so it's probably not just me.
Likewise, I was actually hoping the game could retain the style of the first teaser, that was more appealing to me than the actual 'hybrid' meshing of dark and anime (which I'm not a fan of either).
I suppose it could still be worth to be checked out for the combat and level design as long as they're not too silly. *Whilst patiently waiting for the mighty From to make their move*
I just cannot fathom the hive mind that is japan. Everything is anime. Why doesn't anyone deviate from this?
Ah c'mon that's total bs a lot of studios do and even in anime/manga there are a lot of different styles, if you don't like the art style which is kinda anime in this case just move on.
Code Vein has character customization, large variety of fields
Quote:
The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation has new details on Code Vein, Bandai Namco’s new action RPG from its God Eater team.
If you missed it last week, catch up on all the information and screenshots released so far here.
Here are the new details, via a developer interview in the magazine:
- The game is set in a world where time has passed after it was destroyed by a certain cause. Now, modern society is made up of adjoining lands.
- Your purpose as a Revenant is to survive. As you fight, you will get closer to the truth of the world.
- (Presumably referring to the screenshots that have been released…) The protagonist is the short-haired man, and the red-haired man and the woman wearing the Russian hat are NPCs.
- The player character can be freely customized. Gender can also be set. A wide range of customization is possible, allowing you to make a heroic and cool-looking character.
- The game will feature growth elements with a very high degree of freedom, allowing you to develop your character in a way that matches your play style.
- Rather than progress by clearing stages, you’ll explore the world of adjoining lands on your own feet.
- There are a large variety of fields. Each area has enemies with different characteristics, as well as area-specific mechanics. The volume should be satisfying.
- Even if your Buddy character dies, you can continue exploring. You can also explore on your own without bringing along a Buddy.
- The concept of “death” does not exist. Even if you’re out of action, if time passes, you can become active again (retry again from a checkpoint).
- They’re re not trying to put difficulty at the forefront, but there will be challenges.
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
