So, thinking about getting a new laptop. Current one is a Lenovo T500, which has lasted me 2 years of 14hours/day. Very satisfied Smile Lately the screen has started flickering and I get random freezes. I guess that is to be expected.

Am thinking about getting the Lenovo Y550P:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146613

I can get it around here for $1k, and I see newegg listing it as $900. Its got everything I need... fast CPUs, fast/lots mem, lots of HD space, and a moderate graphics card. I'm not big on laptop gaming as it kind of gets in the way of my studies, but I figure I can loosen up a bit these next 2 years Smile

Anyone else got any better suggestions? Price isn't that big of an issue, but I won't be spending more than $1k unless its vastly superior to the Y550P.

Just want to see what's out there before I commit Smile

Thanks all,

-t

yeah, I was thinking about one of the Core 2 Duo CULV Timelines ... but seeing as they are coming out with the i core processors with the same battery life they're worth waiting for...

So was I. Specifically was looking at asus ul series which gets pretty good reviews. But then found out about timelinex and just thought it was worth the wait.
If the 4820T is below $1000, im snatching one right away.
Lets just hope they hurry up with the release already, need a laptop pretty soon, and the only thing that is similar in performance/battery life/portability as timelinex is sony vaio z which is too expensive for me.

yeah I need it by mid-may so if no new timeline by then I'm getting an old timeline Smile

shame the price on the old ones will drop when then new ones come out, but what I need it for is an excuse to buy one in the first place Razz

Caved in and bought it. It's really fucking fast, even with all the bloatware. Gonna start uninstalling bloatware, disabling services, updating drivers, and then will run some games to see how it does Smile Love the keyboard, its very... clickable. A $1k well spent... well, 1.1k after taxes (fucking California).

Lol gave up on waiting and snatched myself an HP envy 15 for 1250 plus $100 bing cashback, so about 1150, which is darn good for a machine like that.
It has i5, ati hd 5830, 1080p, 4 gigs, and the aluminum body looks sexy. Battery of course is no where near what timelinex offers, but I cannot blame it for the power that you get.
Lets just hope those mofos dont announce that n82 and timelinex are both coming out tomorrow Smile
